    NHS Officer Duties and Elections

     
    Applications for NHS officer positions are now open and are due on or before April 24th, 2024. See the instructions below. Please read the NHS Officer Responsibilities before applying for a position! Officers must be able to work collectively to lead the membership to successfully carry out the pillars and activities. 
     

    OFFICER DUTIES

     

    President:

    • Constantly check your email – EVERY DAY
    • Attend general member meetings and officer meetings monthly
    • Create meeting power point each meeting, present the power point, field questions after the meeting
    • Send out reminder emails after meetings with a copy of the power point and important notes
    • Manage emails from club members, officers, and advisors
    • Make sure everyone is on task with their responsibilities
    • Supervise events that need a chaperone (or delegate or another officer) and ensure materials for events are distributed as needed (and returned)
    • Make sure that both the junior and senior hours logs are accurate and updated by your VPs
    • Communicate with event coordinators
    • Create volunteer ideas to ensure that there are plenty of opportunities for hours
    • Plan events and make a schedule (must communicate this with advisor to keep website calendar updated)
    • Be present at all NHS officer interviews
    • Speak at induction ceremony
    • Participate in officer ceremony
    • Handle complaints from peers

    Vice-Presidents:

    • Constantly check your email – EVERY DAY
    • Attend general member meetings and officer meetings monthly
    • Maintain either senior or junior hours log and keep up to date
    • Connecting with members about hours, penalties, and meetings
    • Check and log all flex hours (from drop box on website)
    • Communicate deadlines specific for your grade level members
    • Assist President with duties
    • Speak at induction
    • Participate in new officer interviews and new officer ceremony

    Treasurer and Historian:  

    • Constantly check your email – EVERY DAY
    • Attend general member meetings and officer meetings monthly
    • Maintain financial records (check with advisor on state of account)
    • Collects dues and email members to follow up on and collect late dues
    • Plans financial needs to execute events throughout the year
    • Organize fundraisers to generate funds
    • Maintain positive relationships with community groups who help with fundraisers
    • Assist President with duties
    • Participate in new officer interviews and new officer ceremony
    • Keep a record of the club's accomplishments and activities for the year
    • Collect items such as pictures and news clippings about the club and its members
    • Manage and post on the CBE NHS Instagram (make posts about meetings and other important events)
    • Assist President with duties
    • Run any in school spirit related events related to NHS
    • Participate in new officer interviews and new officer ceremony

    Secretary:

    • Constantly check your email – EVERY DAY
    • Attend general member meetings and officer meetings monthly
    • Maintain an email list for both grade levels (seniors and juniors)
    • Create and manage sign ups for events and fundraisers
    • Maintain contact with event coordinators and get sign in logs for events to give to VPs
    • Send a weekly email to membership about “this week’s events”
    • Assist President with duties
    • Participate in new officer interviews and new officer ceremony

    Charity Supervisors:

    • Constantly check your email – EVERY DAY
    • Attend general member meetings and officer meetings monthly
    • Maintain the CBE Food Pantry and work directly with Mrs. Bartnett and advisors
    • Complete monthly inventory of food pantry (record number of items in stock, items needed, expiration dates) within the first week of every month
    • Communicate food pantry needs after monthly inventory is complete so items can be replenished
    • Keep food pantry organized
    • Determine needs and improvements related to the food pantry
    • Work closely with the Secretary to execute donation events including organization and tracking of donations for events
    • Assist President with duties
    • Participate in new officer interviews and new officer ceremony

    Peer Tutor Coordinator:

    • Constantly check your email – EVERY DAY
    • Attend general member meetings and officer meetings monthly
    • Manage the Peer Tutor Center
    • Work with hours principals and guidance to assign peer tutors as needed
    • Answering emails
    • Connecting tutors with peers
    • Scheduling
    • Assist President with duties

    OFFICER ELECTIONS AND APPLICATION PROCESS

     
    Application parts and process:
    • Step One: Submit an Intent to Run Form and a typed copy of your speech explaining why you are running and what you plan to accomplish, etc...
      • Turn this in by given due date
    • Step Two: Have a teacher send a letter of recommendation to the advisor(s)
      • Letter can be printed or emailed to all advisors
      • Turn this in by given due date
    • Step Three: Record your speech and upload to Flipgrid
      • Complete this in by given due date
    • Step Four: Participate in a scheduled interview with the current officers and advisors
    • Step Five: Wait for the general membership to vote

    Interviews - Interviews will be held in person or on Teams as needed. A sign-up will be sent for potential officers to select a time. Interviews may be held after school or during lunch (TBD). Expect your interview to be about 10 minutes and prepare any questions you have beforehand. Dress to impress.

    Speeches - A printed copy of your speech must be submitted with your intent to run form. Your speech must also be recorded and uploaded on FlipGrid (Submit Flipgrid Video  join code is e2adad7d) to be viewed by the advisors and current officers (not general membership). Videos/speeches should be 1-2 minutes in length.
