What Is Team Greene?
Team Greene was created in 2005 when the CB East family learned of Teacher and Football Coach Larry Greene's diagnosis with Multiple Myeloma. A CB East alumni, Greg Chess, was diagnosed with the same disease a year before. When Greg was diagnosed, a walk was held locally to raise money for the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF).
When Larry was diagnosed, the staff and football team wanted to show their support by participating in the walk again. Unfortunately, the walk was moved to Philadelphia, so we held our OWN walk and opened it up to the entire Central Bucks community.
Both CB West and CB South came on board to support Larry. Many alumni, students, and players also participated or made donations. The walk started at War Memorial Field at CB West, proceeded through Doylestown along the hospital trail, around Doyle Elementary School and Lenape Middle School, and then finished back at the stadium. Larry had touched so many lives and was such an inspirational man that, in ONE month, over $18,000 was raised for the MMRF!
Larry went into remission and enjoyed teaching again at East. Unfortunately, Multiple Myeloma can only be managed, not cured, and Team Greene was resumed in the fall of 2012 to support him and his family. Larry passed away in spring 2013, and is dearly missed.
Team Greene now focuses on raising money for a scholarship in his name given to a CB East senior who exemplifies his spirit. Through t-shirt sales, golf outings, and other generous donations, we have raised over $70,000 to continue his legacy.
