Budgeting for 2025-26: Message from the Business Office
School districts across the Commonwealth must approve their annual budgets no later than June 30 each year. We have already started our work on the 2025-26 school year.
As part of the district’s annual budgeting process, a high-level overview of a proposed preliminary 2025-26 budget was presented at the Jan. 9, 2025 Finance and Operations Committee Meeting. Pennsylvania school districts are required to put forth a preliminary budget if they wish to apply for exceptions from the state’s Department of Education that allow for a property tax increase above the Act 1 Index, which is 4.0% for next school year. Exceptions allow for increases greater than the Act 1 Index. The district discussed a preliminary budget to explore the use of exceptions.
We want to be clear that the preliminary budget is not a final budget, nor does it set a final tax rate. There is a tremendous amount of work to do on the budget between now and final adoption in June.
The budget will be discussed over the next several months at our Finance and Operations Committee meetings. These discussions will include areas where the district might be able to reduce costs. Community members who wish to provide comment or share feedback during this process are invited to attend these meetings as well as email information@cbsd.org at any time.
We look forward to keeping you updated as we develop an educationally and fiscally responsible 2025-26 budget.
