Portrait of a Graduate

Portrait of a Graduate logo, which includes all the attributes on it.
  • The Portrait of a Graduate represents a school district's vision for the skills and attributes that students should embody by the time they graduate.  Beginning as kindergarteners all the way up through 12th grade, the Portrait of a Graduate helps us to align our decisions around school culture, the way we help our students with their social resiliency and the way we help our students with their academic competencies.

The attributes were put together by a group of community stakeholders including students, community members, business owners, school employees, parents and families.  The essential attributes we want all students who graduate from the Central Bucks School District to have are:

Resilient Learners - A resilient learner demonstrates persistence, embraces challenges, develops a healthy relationship with failure as a means for improvement, and actively seeks feedback to improve outcomes.

Critical Thinkers - Critical thinkers maintain an open-minded perspective.  They apply analytical tools to make meaning of new and existing knowledge, consider multiple viewpoints, and employ an inquiry-based approach when seeking solutions to complex problems.

Effective Communicators - Effective communicators actively listen to alternative viewpoints, develop effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills, demonstrate excellence in written communication, and identify audience and purpose.

Thoughtful Collaborators - Thoughtful collaborators are those who listen intently and seek to understand.  They exercise curiosity by asking questions. They actively draw upon diverse expertise and skills and deliberately creates space for others to lead.

Adapable Innovators - Adaptable innovators demonstrate flexibility and thoughtfulness, they value creativity and exploration. They exhibit confidence to take risks and embrace failure.  They utilize self-reflection and accountability to initiate process and product.

Balanced Individuals - Balanced individuals manage activities, expectations, and self-directed goals.  They foster positive relationships with others, maintain cultural and community awareness, and they value and prioritize healthy, physical, social, and emotional wellness.

Responsible Citizens - Responsible citizens act with integrity and empathy while demonstrating personal responsibility. They demonstrate sensitivity to and compassion for others.  They learn how to advocate for themselves and others in a diverse world and seek opportunities to serve our community.
