A Letter to the Central Bucks Community from the Board of School Directors

Dear Central Bucks families,

On Friday, April 2, 2021, Dr. John J. Kopicki resigned from his position as superintendent of schools for the Central Bucks School District. During the regularly scheduled meeting on April 13, 2021, the board will consider the appointment of Central Bucks School District Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education, Dr. Abram Lucabaugh, as Central Bucks’ acting superintendent of schools, effective April 1, 2021.

Dr. Lucabaugh has 17 years of service to the Central Bucks School District, having served as principal of Central Bucks High School East for 11 years before his appointment as assistant superintendent of secondary education in June of 2018. He began his career in education as a classroom teacher at Hatboro Horsham High School. The board is grateful to have such a dedicated and capable individual to serve in the role of acting superintendent while we seek to fill the position of superintendent of schools. Please see the attached letter from Dr. Abram Lucabaugh.

The board is grateful to Dr. Kopicki for his five years of service to the students, faculty, and staff of the Central Bucks School District; we wish him well as he pursues other professional opportunities. He will continue to serve in a consulting capacity for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year. The timeline and details of the search process are forthcoming.

As the district and our entire community continue to emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic and its associated challenges, the board seeks to approach this transition with a sharp focus on what is best for the students who place their trust and confidence in us as this community’s representatives. We are committed to providing the best possible education to the children of the Central Bucks School District, made possible by our world-class support staff, faculty, and administration.

The provisions of the Federal Age Discrimination in Employment Act precluded the Separation Agreement and General Release and Dr. John J. Kopicki’s resignation from being effective until Friday, April 9, 2021 at 4 p.m. Therefore, the information related to this resignation was provided to employees of the school district at 4 p.m. this afternoon. We appreciate the patience of our families as we prepared this information to be made available as appropriate.

Thank you for your continued support,

The Central Bucks School District Board of School Directors
