New Bus Safety Program to Help Enforce Traffic Violations

Central Bucks School District is bolstering the safety of bus passengers through a new partnership with BusPatrol, a safety technology company, and in line with PA Motor Vehicle Code § 3345.
BusPatrol helps create a culture of awareness and responsibility around school buses by equipping school bus fleets with the latest stop-arm, route planning and route execution technology.

As part of the program, all school buses that transport CBSD students are now outfitted with photo enforcement cameras to detect vehicles that illegally pass stopped buses while the stop sign is deployed and red lights are flashing. Every captured incident will be reviewed by a law enforcement officer before a violation notice is issued to the motorist.

Failing to stop for stopped school buses that are picking up or dropping off students is dangerous and prevalent. During Pennsylvania’s Operation Safe Stop in 2023, state authorities reported almost 200 violations in one school day, equivalent to 31,500 violations in a 180-day school year.

We thank our parents, faculty and staff, students who drive, and all other community members in advance for driving safely and carefully when near our buses for the safety of our students. With the start of school approaching, now is a good time for everyone in CBSD to familiarize themselves with school bus-stopping laws, and for parents to remind their children to practice safety tips when boarding and exiting school buses.
