Lenape Middle School Points of Pride

    • On September 4th, 1957 Lenape Middle School opened its doors to students across the entire school district.

    • On February 1, 2007 Lenape Middle School, Doylestown, Pennsylvania received official notification that it has received both state and national recognition as a School to Watch. The Don Eichhorn Schools to Watch Program is a partnership in Pennsylvania that includes the Pennsylvania Middle School Association, the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Lehigh University, Gettysburg College, and Duquesne University. This partnership was developed through the National Forum to Accelerate Middle Grade Reform. Lenape is one of three middle schools in Pennsylvania and approximately 100 nation wide that have received this recognition. The Forum seeks to improve student learning dramatically by advocating that schools provide strong academics, respond to students’ needs and interests, and ensure equal access to high quality classes. According to Nick Chubb, principal, “This recognition reflects on the commitment to our students and to the promotion of academic excellence, developmental responsiveness, social equity, and organizational structure. The Schools to Watch recognition reflects on our entire school community – students, parents, and staff. Lenape will celebrate 50 years of service in the 2007-08 school year. This is a great way to celebrate those years and to kick off our anniversary.”

    • An important point of pride begins with a commitment to students in the Lenape community. The entire staff of Lenape Middle School is recognized for their dedication to students. This dedication is reflected in a safe, caring and respectful culture that promotes high academic expectations and opportunity for “second chance learning” for all students. Lenape is rich in tradition – a tradition of staff members who share a passion and a responsibility for their students!

    • Lenape Middle School students continue to demonstrate an interest that extends beyond our schoolhouse. Service learning and charity projects provide an important learning experience for each of our grade level teams. Their outreach and support to numerous charities and organizations continues to create and strengthen partnerships within and beyond the Lenape community. We all gain when we give.

    • Our students are highly involved with extracurricular activities at Lenape Middle School. Many students (most students), participate in the 12 sports and 26 teams that are offered as part of the middle school program. In addition, Lenape offers a club program 2 times a year. Our music and theater programs continue to be a highlight – over 400 students are involved with band, jazz band, orchestra, choir and theatre productions.

    • The Lenape community is deeply involved in and committed to the Forty Assets project. The project is based in 40 Developmental Assets that are the building blocks of healthy development that help young people grow up healthy, caring and responsible. There are connections between assets, academic success and thriving behaviors. And we believe the Forty Assets are part of the process for forming respectful and influential relationships with young people. The theme of respect and the thought, “Take a Second, Make a Difference”, are part of the culture.

    • Lenape is involved in the “Boomerang Youth Recognition Award” project. The purpose is to recognize students monthly for living by a 40 Assets principle. An asset per month is chosen, and a collection box for nomination forms is kept on the counter in the Lenape office. Lenape hosts several celebratory breakfasts for those who have been recognized for one of the assets, and their parents are also invited to the breakfasts.

    • Lenape Middle School students consistantly receive among the highest PSSA and Keystone scores in the state.

    • 4 out of 5 Lenape students earn Honor Roll.
