    In order to protect the health and safety of all students, all medications administered during the school day must be brought to and administered in the Health Office. No medication will be administered to any student without proper completion of the Medication Dispensing Form. The form must be completed for BOTH prescription and over the counter medications and signed by BOTH the physician AND parent/guardian. Students may not have medications in his/her possession during the school day.


    Ibuprofen and Acetaminophen may be given to students when written permission has been obtained on the student’s Census Verification Sheet, which is sent home at the beginning of each school year.

    An adult must deliver all controlled medications to the Health Office. These medications must be counted, recorded and signed for by both the adult delivering the medication and the nurse accepting the medication.

    Medication Policy

     

    All medication, whether prescription or over-the counter, must be kept in the Health Office. Medication must be sent in the original labeled container and must be accompanied by a Medication Dispensing Form signed by both the physica and the parent.

     

    With parent permission indicated on the census verification report, acetaminophen and ibuprofen may be administered according to the manufacturer's suggested dosage. Your child should not come to school on narcotic medication for pain management, as these medications may cause dizziness, light-headedness, and sedation, which make it difficultfor your child to function safely and effectively in school.

     

    Administration of specific nonprescription medication is available to all students under the guidelines of the District's Medical Director. These medications include cough drops, throat spray, antacid tablets, and Neosporin Ointment.

     

    All controlled medications must be hand-delivered to the school nurse or the principal's designee by a parent or guarian, at which time it will be counted and signed for.
