Overview

In the Central Bucks School District, the art education program supports students in developing creativity, artistic skills, and artistic literacy through both the National Core Arts Standards and the Pennsylvania Academic Standards for the Arts and Humanities. Instruction emphasizes the creative process—generating ideas, developing work, refining techniques, presenting artwork, responding thoughtfully, and making personal, cultural, and historical connections—while also addressing Pennsylvania’s focus areas of art production, art history, art criticism, and aesthetics.

The curriculum is designed to build from grade to grade, helping students strengthen foundational skills while growing as independent creative thinkers. Through guided practice, exploration, reflection, and critique, students learn to use materials, techniques, vocabulary, and visual problem-solving strategies with increasing confidence. This K–12 progression provides a well-rounded experience that supports creative growth, skill development, and meaningful engagement with art throughout each student’s academic journey.
