Teaching and Learning
Overview:
Central Bucks libraries offer a place to explore curricular connections across subject areas, preparing students for college, career readiness, and beyond. This interdisciplinary programming aligns with national and state standards and incorporates the Standard Framework for Learners, which reflects a comprehensive approach to teaching and learning and empowers students to Think, Create, Share, and Grow.
The Role of School Librarians:
School librarians are certified teachers, instructional partners, information specialists, program administrators, and leaders who are essential to student success and achievement.
Teaching in the Library:
Central Bucks librarians practice an inquiry-based approach to learning focused on developing critical thinking skills, information literacy skills, and lifelong readers. This involves designing lessons that foster opportunities for discovery, innovation, communication, and literature appreciation. The focus is on teaching children how to learn so they can apply new knowledge and implement new ideas within and beyond the walls of our schools as innovators, authors, illustrators, and informed digital citizens.
Instructional Partners and Information Specialists:
Central Bucks librarians collaborate with faculty and staff to develop meaningful learning experiences. Librarians partner with classroom teachers to plan lessons that integrate library skills with content area objectives. They act as essential partners by providing resources that reinforce and enrich student learning in the classroom. School librarians offer professional learning opportunities and training in the use of digital resources, as well.
Program Administrators and Leaders:
Central Bucks librarians administer the library program and manage library facilities. As managers of the library space, school librarians create welcoming, flexible environments that support both individual and collaborative learning. They design spaces that encourage creativity, inquiry, and exploration. Librarians develop and maintain organized, accessible, and up-to-date collections of print and digital materials. They ensure equitable access to technology and resources for all students and oversee daily operations to keep the library running smoothly and efficiently. Librarians support personalized learning by connecting students with resources that match their needs and interests.
