Lenape Starts Leukemia/ Lymphoma Fundraiser Tradition
Lenape Middle School participated in a weeklong fundraiser in February to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Coordinated by Will Melvin, Jen Yeager, and members of Lenape’s NJHS, students and teachers proudly took part in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Bring the Change program, a coin drive and spirit week to help blood cancer patients and their families.
The weeklong fundraiser was a progressive coin drive where each day faculty, staff, and students were encouraged to dress in the theme for the day and bring in the denomination of coin for the day. The themes were Pajama Penny Day, Neon Nickels Day, Dress up Dimes Day, Quirky Quarters Day, and Lenape/West Spirit Day. Many, many students and staff took part in the dress down days, and even more brought in coins to donate each day. Much awareness was raised about leukemia and lymphoma and the work being done to find a cure.
The Lenape community raised almost $2,000 in just one week! All proceeds will go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Lenape hopes to make this worthwhile and important fundraiser an annual event.
