Transportation Information and Procedures for 2026-27

A side profile of a school bus with the stop sign extended and the words "2026-27 Transportation Information and Procedures"

Transportation information for the 2026-27 school year is now available in the Parent Portal. With grade realignment coming soon, we want to share important information about what families can expect related to transportation.

Opt Out of Transportation if Not Needed

Families who do not need district transportation for an extended period may opt out by emailing transportation@cbsd.org with the student’s information, effective date, and anticipated duration. The Transportation Department will review the request, update records, and confirm the change.

Possible Inactive Status After 10 Days

The district may place transportation in "inactive status" if a student does not use assigned transportation for 10 consecutive school days. While transportation is inactive, parents and guardians will be responsible for getting their student to and from school. To reinstate service, a written request must be submitted, and district transportation may take at least five business days to resume based on operational needs.

To be clear, transportation for a student will not be placed in "inactive status" after 10 days of non-ridership automatically. The Transportation Department will first confirm with the family directly whether transportation is still needed before any change in status is made. This will allow families to share any circumstances that may have contributed to the student not riding and to confirm their transportation needs.

Our bus drivers will track student ridership and notify the Transportation Department when a student has not used their assigned transportation for 10 consecutive days. We are implementing this process to ensure students continue to have access to transportation when needed while maintaining accurate ridership information and using our transportation resources responsibly.

Student Expectations on District Transportation

Students who use district transportation are expected to arrive at their assigned stop at least five minutes before pick-up, wait safely away from the roadway, board and exit safely, follow driver instructions, remain seated as directed, and follow safe crossing procedures.

Only school-related items that can be safely held on a student’s lap or stored under the seat are permitted.  Dangerous, disruptive, or oversized items are not allowed. Parents and guardians are asked to please review these expectations with their children.

If you have questions about the transportation information in Parent Portal, please contact the Transportation Department at 267-893-4000, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
