    PHOTO SUPPLY LIST

    •         1” binder
    •         Pencil & Pen
    •        Permanent THIN black marker
    •         35mm SLR MANUAL film camera (see notes) – MUST BE FULLY MANUAL (aperture, shutter speeds and focus)
    •         ILFORD HP5 35mm black & white film (4 rolls - 400 ISO)
    •         1 Box (25 SHEETS AT LEAST) Photographic Paper – ILFORD MULTIGRADE RC IV PEARL

I studied photography while I was a student in Central Bucks and concentrated on it in college during my undergraduate and graduate degrees and now I teach it. I have used a variety of brands and ILFORD is consistent and high quality. No matter what you do, please speak to the sales person and make sure you are buying darkroom supplies and not paper for digital printers or color film, we do not have the facilities for those products.

We only use traditional black and white darkroom techniques and supplies in photography 1 and all materials are light sensitive. DO NOT OPEN ANY MATERIALS AT HOME IN NATURAL LIGHT, if you do they will be ruined.

You can absolutely buy materials online, however, I recommend you support our local photography store, Rutherford’s. They are very knowledgeable of our curriculum and the photographic processes we teach in Central Bucks and will know what you need. Also, they offer a student discount if you tell them you are a CB Student! No matter what you do, please do not buy ultra fine, it does not do well with our chemicals.

    ABOUT CAMERAS
CB East has a few loaner cameras that have been donated throughout the years, which you can borrow overnight only and are first come first served, however, it is HIGHLY recommended you borrow a camera from a friend who has previously taken this course, a relative who has one laying round from years past, or purchase a used camera at Rutherford’s or online...even check out the local thrift stores!

Before you leave the store or the person you are borrowing your 35mm MANUAL camera from ask them to show you the LIGHT METER, APERTURE and SHUTTER SPEEDS. You will have to show me when you bring it in. No clue what I am talking about? Be resourceful! Speak to the sales rep, look at the manual or google it! Everyone’s camera will be different and you are responsible for learning your unique equipment. You can do it! Lastly, make sure your camera has a working battery BEFORE bringing it to school.
