Mr. RobinsonElementary Band DirectorWELCOME TO THE BUTLER BAND PAGE!
ON GOING ASSIGNMENT FOR ALL BAND STUDENTS
(VISIT LINKS TO THE RIGHT FOR SONG SPECIFIC ASSIGNMENTS)
OVERVIEW: Students should continue to practice the 3 band songs for the
ESTIMATED TIME: 15-20 minutes of instrument practice (four times a
week or more)
EXPLANATION: Continue to practice the notes and rhythms for Thunderbolt
Fanfare, Moai, and Tempt the Machine
THINGS TO KNOW:
-Practice slow at first in small pieces with LOTS of repetition
-All music has a beat! Make sure you are feeling a steady
beat/pulse when you practice. Tap your foot to help.
-Go for quality work...it's better to spend 15-20 minutes on 4
measures that are giving you a challenge rather than try to play
through a whole song without really knowing if it's right or wrong
-If you forget a fingering for a note look it up in the fingering
chart in the back of your Essential Elements lesson book
-Listen to the recordings of the songs on my website if you're
having trouble knowing how the song or your part
goes (see links below)
-1ST Warm up your instrument, face and breathing muscles first
for about 2-3 minutes by playing simple songs from the lesson
book or by playing major scales (6th graders mostly)
-2ND Identify what song and what section of that song needs the
most work, focus on that for most of your practice time
-3RD You can spend the last 2-3 minutes playing something from
the band songs that you can already play well, for fun. Work
on incresing the tempo (the speed).

-Play your instrument for fun! Make stuff up! Try to make up a
little melody using the notes you know.
-Perform for a family member or a pet the music you've been
working on. Fish make for a great audience!
-Try to figure out the notes to a popular song that you like. Please email me with any questions,Mike RobinsonBand Director
