-December Homework-The Fourth Grade team has decided that we will ease a bit of the holiday hustle and bustle, and there will be no regularly assigned homework for the month of December. There may still be studying for assessments and Spelling tests will still be on Fridays.
Math-We are going to start Ch. 3 this week. This is another long Chapter around the concept of fractions. Similar to last chapter, this chapter will be split into 3 manageable chunks. There will be 2 shorter assessments and then one longer assessment at the end of instruction. Realistically, we will probably only get through 1 of the shorter assessments before the Winter Break.
Reading-We are going to start a novel study, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo. We will also wrap up our Heritage Unit on Wednesday. As a reminder, students will be sharing their heritage through their dress on Wednesday. Please don’t buy anything, but have your students help brainstorm what they might wear on Wednesday—even if it’s the colors of the flag. We will be working with the other fourth grade classes to share different heritage related experiences.
Writing-We are going to wrap-up our Heritage research pieces this week. I am so excited for you to see the amazing pieces that the students have been working on. Our grammar skill will be compound sentences with conjunction.
Social Studies-We are going to begin studying different regions of the United States. We will start with the Northeast region. Fortunately, we have a lot of background knowledge because we live in this region. But, please discuss
Social Skills-This week we will work on reflecting and goal setting in preparation for the end of the first trimester.
