In first grade there is so much to learn to be a fabulous reader, and your child will continue to strengthen his or her strategies as a young reader using what was learned in Kindergarten. Building literacy is part of what makes first grade such a magical year! Your child will also participate in a "Daily Five" Reader's Workshop, which will give him or her the opportunity to read independently, practice "real reading", complete various activities independently to strengthen him or her as a reader and writer, and meet with the teacher for small group reading instruction. Your child will also "Night Read" at home to build good reading habits outside of school. Happy reading to all of our first graders!
