About Me
I was born and raised in Northern England’s beautiful Lake District region and lived and worked in Philadelphia, Belgium, and Portland, Oregon before moving back to PA in the summer of 2022 to be closer to family. Prior to teaching, I gained my BA in journalism and worked as a reporter, a columnist, and an editor for a variety of publications, both print and web-based. After returning to college in 2009, I received my elementary teaching certification from Drexel University and spent two years teaching 2nd grade at the International School of Brussels. My wife, Kate, and I moved to Portland in the summer of 2013, where we adopted our dog, Riggins. For the first two years in Oregon, I taught a blended 4th/5th grade class at The Ivy School, a Montessori-focused charter school. For the past eight years, I taught at Springville K-8 in the Beaverton School District. After four years as a 4th grade teacher, I moved to 3rd grade at the start of the 2019 school year. As well as holding Professional Teaching Licenses in the states of New Jersey, Oregon, and Pennsylvania, I have also completed the North American Montessori Center’s Upper Elementary Diploma Program, and received my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from Portland State University in 2016. Outside of school, I enjoy taking improvisational comedy classes, being outdoors, reading, traveling, gardening, cooking, meditating, and practicing yoga.
