• Meet Your Teacher
  • Hello Students and Families,

My name is Mrs. Slinka and I am very excited to be teaching second grade at Bridge Valley again! This year I am celebrating my 23rd year as a teacher. Second grade has been my home for the past 20 years and each year I love being in the classroom more and more. I always knew that I wanted to be a teacher from the time I was young. Helping my mom in her classroom was one of my favorite things to do and I knew I wanted to be just like her. After I graduated from Albright College and started teaching, I wanted to become an even better teacher so I returned to school and earned my Masters of Arts in Education from Gratz College in 2006 and completed 30 additional graduate credits after that. I love being in the classroom both as a student and a teacher!

When I'm not at school, my husband and I love spending time with our boys Adam and Aaron and our dog Hannah. Adam will be in fifth grade and Aaron will be in second grade this year and Hannah is a 8 year old mixed breed dog who we adopted in 2015. I also spend a lot of time with my friends and family outside of school. We love to play games (especially Scrabble and Sequence), watch movies, and go to Penn State football games! I am a HUGE fan and love cheering on the Nittany Lions. I have always loved sports and used to play softball and basketball when I was young as well as compete on my high school and college track and field teams. My favorite event was the hammer throw and I even set a school record in college in the weight throw! Reading, learning about history, travelling, and collecting postcards from places I've visited or that others have sent me are some of my other favorite things to do.
If you have any questions about Second Grade or just want to say hello, you can send me an email at mslinka@cbsd.org. See you soon!

    Fondly,
    Mrs. Slinka
