    Math:

    Overview:  Applying Knowledge of the Place Value System

    Estimated Time: Approximately 45 minutes

    Explanation:   Today you will review the place value chart and play a game using your number cards.

    Things to know:

    • To review the Place Value System, please reference your workbook pages 20 & 25 (Chapter 1).
    • To review the Place Value System, please reference your workbook pages 296 (Chapter 4).
    • Please visit https://www.cbsd.org/Page/1511 to access tutorial videos related to accessing online Math in Focus resources.
    • There are no pre-made worksheets for today.

    Tasks:

    • Create a Place Value Chart:
      • Use a sheet of paper to create a place value chart. Design your place value chart in a way you like. 
      • The chart should be able to fit an 8 digit number. Include the following place values on your chart. (note: place values below are not listed in order)
        • Tens, ones, tenths, thousandths, hundreds, ten-thousands, ones, hundredths, thousands
      • Place Value Picnic Game:
        • Shuffle your set of number cards. Flip over one card at a time. 
        • As you flip over each card, place it in front of you in a row. Stop at any point after 4 cards.  Do not however, flip over more than 8 cards.  Place a decimal marker in the number and read the number to a parent, sibling, or guardian. 
        • Repeat the game 5 times.
      • Place Value Victory Game:
        • Shuffle your set of number cards.
        • Flip over 2 cards and create a number. Flip over 2 more cards and create a number.  Determine the greatest number.  Determine the least number.
        • Flip over 4 cards and create a number. Flip over 4 more cards and create a number.  Determine the greatest number.  Determine the least number.
        • Flip over 2 cards and create a number. Flip over 2 more cards and create a number.  Add a decimal in both numbers.  Which number is greater?
        • Flip over 3 cards and create a number. Flip over 3 more cards and create a number.  Add a decimal in both numbers.  Which number is less?
        • Flip over 4 cards and create a number. Flip over 4 more cards and create a number.  Add a decimal in both numbers.  Determine the greatest number.  Determine the least number.

    Reading:

    Overview:  Reading Fluency/ Reading Comprehension/ Vocabulary

    Estimated Time: Approximately 45 minutes

    Explanation:  Today you will practice reading your fluency passage, read your Reading A-Z book, complete comprehension worksheets, and practice matching your vocabulary words and definitions.

    Tasks:

    • Reading Fluency
      • Practice reading your fluency passage.
      • You can ask anyone for help with words that you don’t know.
    • Reading A to Z Book VOCABULARY:
      • Practice matching your words and definitions OR have someone at home play “match” or “memory” with you with your words and definitions.
    • Reading Comprehension: Reading A to Z book
      • LEVEL W: AMELIA EARHART A LEGEND IN FLIGHT
        • As you read your book today, write down (or type) 4 connections on a separate piece of paper (text-to-self, text-to-text, or text-to-world connections) that you made as you were reading.
      • LEVEL X: THE HARD STUFF ALL ABOUT BONES
        • Before reading, read each statement on your connect to prior knowledge worksheet in your packet and mark true or false. After reading, mark whether or not each statement was true or false.
      • LEVEL Y: SPACE CAMP
        • Read your book.
        • After reading, pick 1 section of the book and on page 2 of your packet (the summarize page) write a summary of what you read.
      • Reading Comprehension:
        • Select a “just right” chapter book that you have at home. Read for 10-minutes and complete 4 different stop-and-jots.

    Writing:

    Overview:  Descriptive Writing  (DAY 2 IN WRITING PACKET)

    Estimated Time: Approximately 35 minutes

    Explanation:  Today you will revise and edit the descriptive paragraph that you wrote yesterday. 

    Things to know:

    • You can handwrite or type your paragraph. You may use spell check on the computer.  😊

    Tasks:

    • Descriptive Writing
      • Look at your writing from yesterday.
        • Add more details to your writing.
        • Check for spelling and punctuation mistakes.
        • Read it out loud to someone at home and make corrections as you read.
        • Draw a picture to go along with your writing.

    If you type your paragraph you can share it with me, you can take a picture of your work and e-mail it to me, OR you can turn it in when we return to school.

     

    Spelling:

    Overview:  Spelling Review List 1

    Estimated Time: Approximately 10 minutes

    Explanation:  Today you will select a spelling activity from your choice board to complete. 

    Tasks:

    • Spelling Review List 1
      • Select 1 spelling activity from your choice board to complete in your spelling activity book or on a separate piece of paper.
