• DAY #1: Tuesday, 3/17

    Math:

    Overview:  Prime Numbers / Composite Numbers / Factors / Multiples

    Estimated Time: Approximately 45 minutes

    Explanation:  Today you will create a set of number cards.  You will also review prime and composite numbers, as well as complete activities using your knowledge of factors and multiples. 

    Things to know:

    • The following definitions can be used while completing the tasks for today.
      • prime number – A prime number has only two different factors, 1 and itself.
      • composite number – A composite number has more than 2 different factors.
      • factor – 12 can be divided exactly by 2. So, 2 is a factor of 12.
      • multiple – A multiple of a number is the product of the number and any other whole number except zero.
    • If you do not have the supplied worksheets for this day, it is fine to create your own based off the supplied worksheets.

     Tasks:

    • Create a set of number cards.
      • These cards will be used for various activities, so save them from day to day.
      • As a suggestion, you could use 10 index cards, 10 post it notes, or even 10 sheets of similarly sized paper to make your number cards.
      • Place one digit on each card (0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9)
    • Prime/Composite:
      • Shuffle your set of number cards.
        • Flip over one card at a time.
        • Determine if the number on the card is a prime number of a composite number.
      • Complete the PRIME/COMPOSITE T-Chart worksheet page.
        • You may develop numbers on your own or use your number cards to create number to sort into each category.
      • Factors:
        • Locate 5 numbers in your house. Each number must be a two digit number.  Fill in the Factors Chart for all 5 numbers. 
      • Multiples:
        • Complete the Multiples worksheet by writing the next multiples of a chosen number.

    You can take a picture of your work and e-mail it to Mrs. Pachnieski OR you can turn it in when we return to school.

     

    Reading:

    Overview:  Reading Fluency/ Reading Comprehension/ Vocabulary

    Estimated Time: Approximately 45 minutes

    Explanation:  Today you will read your fluency passage for the first time, complete Lesson 1 Main Ideas and Details, and learn your new vocabulary words. 

    Things to know:

    • You will need to sit with mom, dad, grandparent, guardian, brother, or sister and have them time you read for 1 minute to see how many words you read correctly.

    Tasks:

    • Reading Fluency
      • Take a quick look at your fluency passage (remember: no one can help you read the words).  Take the time to CODE the words you don’t know to help you read them.
      • Find mom, dad, grandparent, guardian, brother, or sister and have them time you read for 1-minute and mark the words you read wrong.
    • Reading Comprehension: Lesson 1 Main Idea and Details (pages 5-8)
      • Read and answer the questions on pages 5-8.
      • Practice Vocabulary on page 8
      • Complete the Reading and Writing connection – writing an informative paragraph. You can use Pebble Go, Pebble Go NEXT, or World Book if you need information about an animal.
    • Reading A to Z Book VOCABULARY:
      • Cut apart your vocabulary words. Try and match the words and definitions on your own before checking the book glossary.
      • Complete the first page of your vocabulary packet: select 2 words, write the words, draw a picture, write the definition, a synonym, and an antonym.  You can use a dictionary, thesaurus, or dictionary.com to help you.
    • Reading Comprehension:
      • Select a “just right” chapter book that you have at home. Read for 10-minutes and complete 4 different stop-and-jots.

    Writing:

    Overview:  Descriptive Writing (DAY 1 IN WRITING PACKET)

    Estimated Time: Approximately 35-40 minutes

    Explanation:  Today you will write a descriptive paragraph about thing in the world around you. 

    Things to know:

    • You can handwrite or type your paragraph. You may use spell check on the computer.  😊

    Tasks:

    • Descriptive Writing
      • Take a few minutes to brainstorm your writing
      • There are so many things to describe in the world around you! Choose something from your surroundings and write a descriptive paragraph that paints a picture of what you see.  Be sure to include precise word choice, vary your sentences, and include some figurative language. (similes, metaphors, personification, etc.)

    If you type your paragraph you can share it with me, you can take a picture of your work and e-mail it to me, OR you can turn it in when we return to school.

     

    Spelling:

    Overview:  Spelling Review List 1

    Estimated Time: Approximately 10 minutes

    Explanation:  Today you will select a spelling activity from your choice board to complete. 

    Tasks:

    • Spelling Review List 1
      • Select 1 spelling activity from your choice board to complete in your spelling activity book or on a separate piece of paper.
