Day 11 - Reading
Overview: Be a REAL reader
Estimated Time: Approximately 40 minutes
Explanation:
We have been learning this year that real readers combine the author’s text with their deep reading thoughts.
Things to Know:
- REAL readers activate and add to their schema
- Make inferences, predictions, and connections
- Determine what is important make
- Visualize what is happening
- Ask questions before, during, and after reading
- Summarize/Reflect on what they’ve read
Tasks:
- Read a chapter or 2 from the book you are currently enjoying for independent reading.
- While you are reading, use the habits of a REAL reader
- Complete any option from the Distance Learning: Reading Discussions in your folder
- OPTIONAL – work on completing a Book Celebration from the list in your folder
Turn in You Assignment:
You may either have a discussion with a family member or write about the topic in the notebook in your folder.
Day 11 - Math
Overview: Money
Estimated Time: Approximately 30 minutes
Explanation: You can count money amounts and find change to the nearest dollar.
Things to Know:
- If you cannot print activities, you may write the answers on a sheet of paper.
- To make change, count up from the total amount of the item to the amount paid.
Tasks:
- Complete the activity Gr 3 Day 11 Coins (you may choose to complete on SeeSaw)
- Complete the activity Gr 3 Day 11 Making Change (you may choose to complete on SeeSaw)
- OPTIONAL Extra Practice: Only do this activity if you want more practice.:
Non-tech: Play a shopping game with a partner.
Partner 1: Find something small in your house to pretend to buy. (Make up a price under $1.00)
Pay partner 2 with real coins.
Switch roles.

Day 11 - Language Arts: Writing and Spelling
Overview:
- Students will write in their Journal.
Estimated Time: 25 minutes.
Explanation:
Journal: Students will move through the steps of the writing process- planning, drafting, editing, and revising- to create a written piece.
Tasks:
Writing: Students will write in their Journal.
- Continue writing yesterday’s piece or…
- Read through the Distance Learning Writer’s Notebook Activity topics
- Select a given topic or create your own idea!
- Plan in your head or on a piece of planning paper.
- Write your piece for at least 20 minutes in your new Journal.
- You may publish a piece, continue a piece tomorrow or share with a family member 😊

Day 11 – Social Studies / Science
Overview:
Explore Scholastic Learn From Home website articles that stretches our social studies/science learning to other current events topics.
Estimated Time: 25 minutes
Explanation:
Students will use fiction / nonfiction reading strategies and social studies/science background knowledge (schema) to explore Scholastic’s Learn From Home website articles
Tasks:
