- Connect 4/Basketball (the board game)
-
Physical Education
Overview: Much like the board game Connect 4, to win a player must connect four spaces in a row diagonally, horizontally or vertically.
Estimated Time:
10-15 minutes to an hour
Explanation of Activity:
The game can be played with 2-8 players. Each player needs their own color "chips". "Chips" can be anything in the house that you have at least 8 (checkers, poker chips, cones, pieces of paper that are colored). Draw a grid 5 blocks x 5 blocks on the driveway. Players take turns shooting a basket in whatever grid box they want. If they make the shot, they place their color chip in that box. If they miss they do not place a chip. First player to have 4 chips in a row wins the round. once a chip is placed, that box can not be changed!
Modification -
- Don't have a basketball net? Use a bucket and small ball instead!
- Don't have sidewalk chalk? Draw a game board on paper!
Modification 2 - Play where you have the option of making a shot to place a chip, or make a shot to remove a chip.
Things to know:
Be mindful of modifications you can make for players of different skill or grade levels.
Reflection:
Did you make any other game modifications? Be creative! If you come up with some cool changes to the game let me know! email me at jbocklet@cbsd.org
