Chambley Children’s Distance Learning for Day 7

    March 26, 2020

    Dear Chambleys,

Good morning! It has been 2 full weeks since we have seen each other!  I miss you, I miss our classroom.  I miss our morning meetings.  I even miss Calendar!

Before we get started, here are a few things to keep in mind...

-Chambley Morning Meeting Teams Call today at 10:30am!  Get ready.  I will send you the directions and some reminders so you can be prepared.  I can’t wait to see your faces!!Think about one thing you have done and enjoyed over the past 2 weeks that you don’t usually do and be ready to share about it.  Let’s look on the bright side together.

-The format on the district website is always hard to follow.  For clearer directions, please go to our Teams page for each individual subject.  Also, any materials you might need will be located on Teams. I will attach a Word doc with the lessons on there as well. (Go to Mrs. Jansen’s teacher site if you don’t know how to get on Teams: https://www.cbsd.org/Page/43506)

-If an activity or resource is not working out, please move on. If you have the option to do something fun and meaningful with a sibling or parent and don't get to all your work---it will be ok.

--At the top of my district learning page I have linked to all other teachers you might have as part of your school day.  Visit their pages for more information. Math should be almost the same for all of us, however there might be different optional activities listed.

    - I am proud of you for helping out at home, being kind to one another, and letting your parents get their work done.  You are big kids and you can do this!  We will do it together!

-Go outside today.  Trust me, it is good for our minds and bodies.

    Here we go…

Starting the Day: It is Time for Homeroom!

Please complete the following “Homeroom Activities.”

    Day 7 Chambley Writing

Overview:Revising & Editing an Informational Writing Piece

    Estimated Time:Approximately 45-50 Minutes

Explanation:Today you will edit & revise your writing piece. Then you will ask someone to listen to you read it aloud.  Finally, you will put their suggestions to good use and make changes to your piece.

    Quick Things to Know:

    • There is a bit more to do in writing today than we have had so far this week. Therefore, I am reducing the expectations in social studies & reading class to give you enough time.
    • I have commented on every person’s writing piece. If you did not receive feedback from me- please email me pchambley@cbsd.orgtoday so I can try to resend your piece to you.
    • As part of our continuing virtual teacher conference, you will be emailing me with a specific question today about your piece and I will be replying to you. You will use my comments and answers to your question to make needed changes and finish your writing piece which is due on Saturday. (Since we have this flexible communication, I can give you extra time.).
    • Feel free to write back to me under the comments if you have questions. You can also click resolve to show you took care of a suggestion or comment I made.
    • Your final draft of your personal informational writing piece is due by noon on Saturday, March 28th. It is hard to believe it is almost time for report cards with all the changes to our regular schedule, but it is.  So I am giving you until then to finish the important task of Editing and Revisingas well as Publishingyour piece.

    • You will need to access your writing piece over Office 365. Remember, Mrs. Jansen’s website is an excellent resource if you forget how to do that.Link to Mrs. Jansen’s site: https://www.cbsd.org/Page/43506
    • Remember you can reach me over Teams, email, or your parents can Remind App me.

    Tasks:

      • First, read each of my comments.
      • You are ready to revise and edit today.
      • Make needed changes and click resolve on my comments as you use them to help you.
    • Open the Document called “Day 7 Turn it in List.” It is on Teams under the Assignment and also in the Files section of Teams and was emailed to your parents.
    • Pretend you are in class on the last day of a writing piece and finishing your final checklist. Read it over and really think about it.
    • Check off each item right on the screen (you can use the draw menu) or highlight the ones you have completed. If you can’t check something off honestly—well that is your chance to fix it.  You are the author and the control of this piece lies with you.
    • Ask someone at home to listen to you read it aloud or tape yourself reading aloud and listen back to it. Ask the person working with you if any sentences sound awkward or unclear.  Make a note of that and look at how you can clarify your writing. Thank the person who helped you.
    • Remember:
      • Make sure you have a clear thesis and that it is the last sentence of the intro paragraph
      • Make sure the thesis is repeated, but paraphrased, in the conclusion sentence
      • Type those changes right onto your piece.
      • Be sure you have an exciting or interesting title
      • Be sure you follow the directions carefully!
    • Share your Turn it in List & Final Draft of your Writing piece with me over teams. Attach them and submit.
    • Congratulations! You did it! We will make covers & publish next week 
