If you are in my room for any of these subjects, please follow the assignments listed on this page for that subject. If you are NOT in my room for any of these subjects, please follow the assignments posted for that subject of your homeroom teacher.

# Tuesday, March 31st, 2020 - Day 9

Overview: Polygons

Estimated Time: Approximately 30 minutes

Explanation of Activity/Assignment: Today you will review polygons and look around your house searching for polygons.

Quick things to know:

• Please visit https://www.cbsd.org/Page/1511 to access tutorial videos related to accessing online Math in Focus resources.
• If you do not have the supplied worksheets for this day, it is fine to create your own based off the supplied worksheets.

• Constructing Polygons
• You have two options  to complete this activity.
• Create each polygon listed on the worksheet
• Polygon Search Worksheet:
• Look around your house to see how many polygons you can find.
• How many can you find?

How is this assignment turned in to the teacher?  You can either take a picture or scan your workseets and email them to me at eduncan@cbsd.org. If this option is not available to you, please hold on to your worksheets until we return to school. For each assignment completed you will earn \$5 (class money) when we return to school.

Overview: Book study of "My Life as a Book", by Janet Tashjian

Estimated Time: Approximately 45 minutes.

Explanation of Activity/Assignment: Today you will continue reading the book, "My Life as a Book". Before reading you will define some key vocabulary that is in the book. After reading you will answer some comprehension questions about what you read

Quick things to know:

• You can define the vocabulary words on a page in your tan workbook that was put in your green folder or type them on a computer.
• When defining the vocabulary terms, you may use the internet or a dictonary to help you.
• When answering your comprehension questions you may write in your tan workbook or type them on a computer.

• Before reading the book, define the vocabulary terms that are found in the first chapters of the book. Feel free to use a dictionary or the internet.
• The vocabulary words you need to define are: guardian, tenderize, merciless, instinct, concentrate, negotiate, contaminated (8 total)
• Next, read the next chapters of the book titled "Two Emails" and "A Truce" (read up to page 128)
• After reading, the following questions. (Remember, your responses should be at least 3 sentences long)
1. Make a prediction, what will Derek discover when he goes to Martha's Vinyard and meets Susan's mother?
2. Pretend you are Derek. Write responce letter back to Susan's mom.

How is this assignment turned in to the teacher? You can either take a picture or scan your work and email it to me at eduncan@cbsd.org. If this option is not available to you please hold on to your writing until we return to school. For each assignment completed you will receive \$5 (class money) when we return to school.

Overview: Compare and Contrast

Estimated Time: Approximately 25 minutes

Explanation of Activity/Assignments: Using your new knowledge and information about the year your were born and this year (2019 - 2020), you are going to fill in a "Compare and Contrast" chart.

Quick things to know:

• Today you are going to take the research you found from the year your were born and this year (2019 - 2020) and compare and contrast.
• The compare and contracts model is two intersecting circles.
• You can draw this diagram or you can create one on the computer.

• Compare and contrast. Create a compare and contrast diagram.
• The section on the left should list facts specfic to your birth year, the section on the right should be specfic to this year, and the section in the middle should list similarities between both years.
• You should have at least 5 facts in each section.

How is this assignment turned in to the teacher?  You can either take a picture or scan your writing and email it to me at eduncan@cbsd.org. If this option is not available to you please hold on to your writing until we return to school. For each assignment completed you will receive \$5 (class money) when we return to school.

Overview: Novel study of "Hoot" by Carl Hiaasen

Estimated Time: Approximately 45 minutes.

Explanation of Activity/Assignments: Today you will continue reading the novel, "Hoot". After reading you will complete a reading pages in your novel study packet that relate to the first chapters.

Quick things to know:

• The novel study packet is in your green folder.

• Read chapter 11 of "Hoot", by Carl Hiaasen
• After reading, complete page 18 in your novel study packet titled, "Understanding the Story: Chapters 10 - 12" .
