Math: Addition and Subtraction Fluently Within 1,000

Estimated Time for Activities: Approximately 30 minutes

Things to know:

1. If you do not have the supplied worksheets or access to any of the worksheets, it is fine to create your own based off the supplied worksheets.
2. More specific directions are provided on each sheet/activity that goes along with these lessons. I will send these sheets through email.

Activity 1:

Overview: Add and subtract numbers within 1,000 with regrouping in ones, tens, and hundreds.

Explanation:

1. You will add and subtract within 1,000 with regrouping
2. Add and subtract by using the standard algorithm of addition and subtraction when regrouping
3. When regrouping, we can call it “regrouping” or “shifting” the tens. (A parent might think of this as “borrowing” however, we call it regrouping since we aren’t returning or giving back any of the “tens” we needed. π)

1. Add and subtract within 1,000 with regrouping in the ones.
2. Add and subtract within 1,000 with regrouping in the tens.
3. Add and subtract within 1,000 with regrouping in the ones and tens.
4. Subtract within 1,000 with regrouping in the tens and hundreds.

Activity 2:

Overview: Subtract numbers within 1,000 across zeros.

Explanation:

1. You will subtract within 1,000 across zeros
2. Subtract by using the standard algorithm of subtraction when regrouping
3. When regrouping, we can call it “regrouping” or “shifting” the tens. (A parent might think of this as “borrowing” however, we call it regrouping since we aren’t returning or giving back any of the “tens” we needed. π)

1. Subtract within 1,000 with or without regrouping.

Writing- Day 4

Overview- How To Writing- Prewriting Graphic Organizers

Estimated Time- 25 minutes

Explanation of Activity/Assignment- Students will brush their teeth. Students will write down all the materials they need and the steps they do to brush their teeth. Use graphic organizer page 7, My Sequence Map – draw pictures of your steps. Use page 8, Planning Map, jot down words for each step. These pages are in the Writing Packet.

Quick things to know- To make it fun, your child can record and video themselves on Seesaw explaining the steps to brush your teeth.   This might help them with their planning pages.

Tasks- Plan out the steps of How to Brush Your Teeth with pictures on page 7 and notes on page 8.

Activity pack- My Writing Packet, page 7 and 8.

We will add to this activity on Day 5.

• Read and discuss the books on weather: Come On, Rain! And Rainy Weather Days

4. Read the book, Rainy Weather Days
5. Watch the video, “It’s Raining, It’s Pouring”
6. Tell someone in your household what happens when there is too much or too little rain?
7. Optional: Draw and Write Activity. Write about a special rainstorm. What would be falling from the clouds? Draw a picture of it.

Spelling

Spelling: Words Their Way Books Sort 4

Overview: Students will be able to review spelling patterns and vowel sound concepts.

Estimated Time: 15 minutes

Explanation of Activity/Assignment:

• Student will practice spelling words by writing words on whiteboards, if possible, or in the air

Quick things to know: These are review skills. Therefore, students should be familiar with the vowel sounds and patterns.
