    Today's Special is Quest, so refer to Gayman's Distance Learning page for specific activities for today's special.

    Day 5 Math:  Game Day!

    Estimated Time for Activities:  Approximately 30 min.

    Things to know:

    1. Use the Math packet provided. Look for pages 29-35.
    2. More specific directions are provided on each sheet/activity that goes along with these lessons. 

    Activity 1:  Overview:  Math Game Day: Review of Addition and Subtraction Concepts

    Explanation:  You will choose from several different math games to practice adding within 20, adding and subtracting within 20 and 100, and subtracting within 20.  Play at least 2 of the 4 games today.

    Tasks:

    1. Play the games in the Math packet pages 29-35 to practice addition and subtraction concepts.

    How is this assignment turned in to the teacher: Take a picture of you playing a game and post it on Seesaw.

    Phonics-Day 5

    Estimated time for phonics and reading activities:  Approximately 45 minutes

    Overview:  Review the  -ar, -er, -ir spelling pattern (15 minutes)

    Explanation:  You will review the -ar, -er, -ir  spelling pattern with someone at home and write dictated sentences.

    Things to know: 

    1. Sit with someone at home.
    2. You can do this activity in a variety of ways (out loud, paper and pencil, rainbow write, on Seesaw etc.)

    Tasks:

    1. Write 3-5 sentences that an adult dictates to you using the words from days 1-3.

    How to Turn in these Assignments:  Please save any papers with your work in your folder or post on Seesaw.  I will also respond to comments on Seesaw as they are posted.

    Reading-Day 5

    Overview:  Build your reading stamina, comprehension and practice reading with fluency and expression (30 minutes)

    Explanation:  You will be reading a fiction text aloud to a toy (or pet or family member).

    Things to Know:

    1. Choose a book that is fiction for today. You can use a book that you have at home or you can log-on to Epic! to choose a fiction book for today.
    2. Continue to use your green fluency book each day to build reading fluency

    Tasks:

    1. Complete your one-minute fluency passage reading.
    2. Read a new story in a spot you don’t usually read in. For example read standing in at the kitchen counter OR choose one of the options on the Epic! reading bingo page that is in your yellow folder.
    3. Feel free to post a video of you reading a story on Seesaw.

    How to Turn in these Assignments:  Please save any papers with your work in your folder. I will also respond to comments on Seesaw as they are posted.

    Day 5 Writing (25 minutes)

    Overview: Brainstorm an animal you would like to research and complete a web (20 minutes)

    Explanation: Second graders will complete a web for an animal they would like to research

    Things to Know:

    1. It may be helpful to have a discussion with your child about an animal they want to write about for this piece before they get started.

    Tasks:

    1. Brainstorm a list of animals you would like to learn about.
    2. Choose one animal.
    3. Create a web on a piece of paper with your animal in the center.
    4. Add as many facts as you know about your animal around the web.
    5. Tomorrow you will begin to research your animal using Pebble Go or Epic!

    How to turn in this Assignment:  Post it on Seesaw or put it in your folder.

    Day 5- Science (20 minutes)

    Overview:  Review sound

    Explanations:  Students will listen to a fiction book on sound and a nonfiction book on sound.  Both are from the Scholastic website.

    Things to Know:

    1. You will need to log on to Scholastic website to listen to the books and complete an activity.
    2. You can break this lesson over two days.

    Tasks:

    1. Go to the Scholastic Web site: https://classroommagazines.scholastic.com/support/learnathome/grades-1-2.html
    2. Go to Day 3: Science- -Watch the story-Zin! Zin! Zin! A Violin
    3. Read the book All About Sound.
    4. Watch the video: What’s That Sound?
    5. Complete the Draw and Write Activity: Listening Ears
