    Day 6 Reading

    Overview: Generate inferences as you read

    Estimated Time: Approximately 45 minutes

    Explanation of Assignment: Using your Tuck Everlasting packet you read and generate generalizations. 

    Quick things to know

    generalization is a broad statement that applies to many examples. A generalization is formed from several examples or facts and what they have in common. Readers recognize and evaluate generalizations made by an author. Readers make and support their own generalizations based on reading a selection.

    Tasks

    1. Read Tuck Everlasting chapters 8-10
    2. As you read, jot down generalizations you make page 19 of your packet.
    3. Throughout your reading of the novel
      1. Keep track of elements of realism and fantasy (packet page 7)
      2. Jot down a description and supporting text evidence (packet page 8)
      3. Keep track of each character’s feelings about living forever (packet page 9)
    4. When you have finished take a picture of something you completed and post it to Seesaw Reading Activity Day 6

    -If you do not have access to your Tuck Everlasting packet, I have included it as an assignment in Teams under reading. You can just use separate sheets of paper to complete the assignments.

    Writing: Day 6 

    Overview:Begin the rough sketches for picture book pages. 

    Estimated Time: Approximately 25 minutes 

    Explanation of Assignment: Using the packet titled, “Directions for Picture Book Assignment” you will follow THE SECOND Day 5 on the schedule.   

    Things to Know:You should have the rough draft of all of your words written in the “Illustration and Scene Narration Organizer.” Today, you are beginning to map out rough sketches to go along with your words. Be sure you include pictures that compliment and tell the story of your words.  You will be required to fill all white space in your final copy, so keep that in mind also as you are planning out your sketches. 

    Tasks: 

    1. Follow THE SECOND Day 5 (I’m sorry that I made a mistake on the numbered days and will try to be as specific as possible in the directions) on the schedule page of your “Directions for Picture Book Assignment” 
    1. THE SECOND Day 5 instructs you to complete Pages 3-4 in your “Directions for Picture Book Assignments” packet 
    1. On pages 3-4 in your “Directions for Picture Book Assignment” you must make rough sketches for the words that you have planned for scenes 1-4. Each scene represents a different page for your picture book.  
    1. If you are finished early and are looking for additional practice, go onto your MobyMax account and work on Language

    1. The final picture book assignment will be handed-in in-person when we return to school. We will share our final picture books in small groups. 

     

    Math

    Overview:  Variables / Coordinate Planes

     

    Estimated Time: Approximately 45 minutes

     

    Explanation:   Today you will review variables, variable expressions, and coordinate planes.  Then, you will use the two concepts to create line plots.

     

    Things to know:

    • The following definitions can be used while completing the tasks for today.
      • variable – a quantity represented by a letter that can take different values
      • algebraic expression – an equation that contains at least one variable
      • coordinate plane – an ordered pair of numbers that gives the location of a point in the coordinate grid
      • ordered pair – a pair of numbers used to name a location on a grid. The first number tells the distance from the vertical axis.  The second number tells the distance from the horizontal axis
    • If you do not have your Math in Focus book at home you can access it throught Ed Your Friend in Learning
    • To review variables, please reference your workbook pages 5-14 (Chapter 7).
    • To review coordinate planes, please reference your workbook pages 115-122 (Chapter 9).

    • Worksheets for today can be found in the Math Teams file titled day 6.
    • If you do not have the supplied worksheets for this day, it is fine to create your own based off the supplied worksheets.

    • Continue recording the daily temperature on your chart.
    • Variable Charting and Graphing:
      • Complete the Variable Charting and Graphing worksheet
      • Finish the chart on the first page, then graph the coordinate points on the second page.

    Social Suties Wednesday, March 25

    Overview: Explore Hindu beliefs about Dharma

    Estimated Time: Approximately 20 minutes

    Explanation of Assignment: Using the purple History Alive interactive notebook or digitally on TCI, you will complete section 6: Beliefs about Dharma.

    Things to Know: The chapter, Learning About World Religion: Hinduism, will take approximately 3 weeks to complete.  Students will be reading each section of the chapter and answering comprehension questions in their notebook. To conclude the chapter, students will complete a one-pager to showcase their new learning.

    Tasks:

    1. Read chapter 15 section 6: Beliefs about Dharma. All students have access to the text through Office 365 in their TCI app.
    2. On the blank sheet of paper titled “Chapter 15 Vocabulary” that you created last week add the word Dharma. You can reveal the definition on TCI by clicking on the word when reading section 6.
    3. 3. In the purple History Alive interactive notebook complete section 6 (numbers 1-4) that can be found on page 110 or accessed digitally on TCI in assignments. 
    4. Post a picture of page 110 when finished to Seesaw in activities.
