If you are in my room for any of these subjects, please follow the assignments listed on this page for that subject. If you are NOT in my room for any of these subjects, please follow the assignments posted for that subject of your homeroom teacher.

# Thursday, March 26th, 2020 - Day 7

Overview: Dividing Fractions and Whole Numbers and Measurment

Estimated Time: Approximately 30 minutes

Explanation of Activity/Assignment: Today you will review dividing fractions and mixed numbers.

Quick things to know:

• When dividing fractions, write your number model. Keep the first fraction as is, change the division sign to a multipication sign, finally reciprocate or flip the second fraction. Multiply the fraction and simplify as needed.
• To review Dividing Fractions and Whole Numbers, please reference Ed: Your Friend in Learning online, or your workbook pages 241 -250 (Chapter 3).
• Please visit https://www.cbsd.org/Page/1511 to access tutorial videos related to accessing online Math in Focus resources.
• If you do not have the supplied worksheets for this day, it is fine to create your own based off the supplied worksheets.

• Dividing Fractions and Whole Numbers Worksheet:
• Complete the Dividing Fractions and Whole Numbers worksheet.
• Measuring:
• You will need a ruler for this activity.
• If you do not have a ruler, you may use the supplied rule in the worksheet pages. The supplied ruler is only a 10-inch or 25 centimeter ruler.
• Using your ruler, complete the measurement worksheet by filling in the chart.
• Extra: Only do this activity if you want more practice.

Overview: Book study of "My Life as a Book", by Janet Tashjian

Estimated Time: Approximately 45 minutes.

Explanation of Activity/Assignment: Today you will continue reading the book, "My Life as a Book". Before reading you will define some key vocabulary that is in the book. After reading you will answer some comprehension questions about what you read

Quick things to know:

• You can define the vocabulary words on a page in your tan workbook that was put in your green folder or type them on a computer.
• When defining the vocabulary terms, you may use the internet or a dictonary to help you.
• When answering your comprehension questions you may write in your tan workbook or type them on a computer.

• Before reading the book, define the vocabulary terms that are found in the first chapters of the book. Feel free to use a dictionary or the internet.
• The vocabulary words you need to define are: tribe, collaborate, oblige, deserting, misery, protesting, archives, decade, eager, contaminated (10 total)
• Next, read the next chapters of the book titled Saying Good-bye to Matt, Susan's Site, and Movies Run in the Family (read up to page 102)
• After reading, the following questions. (Remember, your responses should be at least 3 sentences long)
1. On page 97 - 98, Derek writes a note to Susan. Why do you think that Derek wanted to write this note?
2. Derek draws small pictures for words that he doesn't know to remeber them. For your vocabulary words today, draw a small picture to help you remember them.

Estimated Time: Approximately 25 minutes

Explanation of Activity/Assignments: You are going to research the year that you were born and the current year (2019 - 2020), looking for similarities and differnces.

Quick things to know:

• Today you are ONLY researching about the year you were born!
• Look for interesting facts (who were popular celebrities, what did people wear, who was president, anything you find interesting)

• Use the ineternet to find as many interesting facts as possible.
• You can ask family members to get information as well.
• You can take your notes in your tan workbook or you can type them - just make sure you hold on to them for next week!!!

How is this assignment turned in to the teacher?  You can either take a picture or scan your writing and email it to me at eduncan@cbsd.org. If this option is not available to you please hold on to your writing until we return to school. For each assignment completed you will receive \$5 (class money) when we return to school.

Overview: Novel study of "Hoot" by Carl Hiaasen

Estimated Time: Approximately 45 minutes.

Explanation of Activity/Assignments: Today you will continue reading the novel, "Hoot". After reading you will complete a reading pages in your novel study packet that relate to the first chapters.

Quick things to know:

• The novel study packet is in your green folder.

• Read chapter 9 of "Hoot", by Carl Hiaasen
• After reading, answer #3 on page 14 in your novel study packet that you skipped from yesterday.
• Also,complete page 15 in your novel study packet titled, "Chapter Summary: Chapters 7 - 9" .
