Chambley Children’s Distance Learning for Day 3
March 19, 2020
Dear Chambleys,
Day 3 already? I cannot believe it is Thursday. It sure doesn’t feel like a Thursday. I hope you are all doing well and continuing to help out at home.
Before we get started, here are a few things to keep in mind...
-Today we are going to shoot to have a class Teams call at 10am. So when you get the call, if you are up for it, try to answer. It should be fun. We can pretend it is our morning meeting and share what has been great about being out of school and maybe one thing that hasn’t been great.
-I will only be available online today from 8-10am when we have our call. After that I have to be an adult and parent and also do some dishes. ☹ That is no fun.
-I am also working hard to figure out the best way to host a read aloud. I haven’t tried Padlet but I heard that might be a good option. I will look into it. If you have any ideas or suggestions, I would love to hear them.
-The format on the district website is always hard to follow. For clearer directions, please go to our Teams page for each individual subject. Also, any materials you might need will be located on Teams. I will attach a Word doc with the lessons on there as well. (Go to Mrs. Jansen’s teacher site if you don’t know how to get on Teams: https://www.cbsd.org/Page/43506)
-If an activity or resource is not working out, please move on. If you have the option to do something fun and meaningful with a sibling or parent and don't get to all your work---it will be ok.
--At the top of my district learning page I have linked to other teachers you might have as best I can. Visit their pages for more information. Math should be almost the same for all of us, however there might be different optional activities listed.
-You can email me, message me over SeeSaw, Remind, or even Teams any time you need me.
-I miss you!! I am proud of you for helping out at home, being kind to one another, and letting your parents get some work done. You are big kids and you can do this! We will do it together!
Here we go…
Starting the Day: It is Time for Homeroom!
Please complete the following “Homeroom Activities.”
- Make your bed. Pick up your dirty clothes from yesterday.
- Brush your teeth, eat breakfast, clear your breakfast dishes, and put some clean clothes on!
- Give your family hugs, especially your parents.
- Clean up your workspace from yesterday. Put all items neatly away and make sure you are ready for a new day.
- Sharpen your pencils.
- Complete page three in your handwriting packet.
- Trace each letter and word. Make sure you are filling in each line on the page.
- Log into SeeSaw if you have not already done so. Send me a video! I miss you all so much!

Estimated Time: Approximately 45 minutes
Explanation: Today you will review multiplying and dividing 2-digit numbers fluently. You will practice fact fluency as well as complete a worksheet.
Things to know:
- When multiplying 2 digit numbers it is important to line up your place values.
- Please visit https://www.cbsd.org/Page/1511 to access tutorial videos related to accessing online Math in Focus resources.
- Please open the worksheet document in Teams. Save it to your OneDrive and then when you are done submit it through assignments.
- If you do not have the supplied worksheets for this day, it is fine to create your own based off the supplied worksheets. Take a picture and submit over teams, SeeSaw, remind, or email
Tasks:
- ) Multiplication Flashcards:
- You will need your number cards for this activity.
- Shuffle your set of number cards.
- Flip over one card. Flip over a second card. Multiply the two digits.
- Continue until all cards are used.
- Shuffle your set of number cards and repeat this process 5 times.
- ) Complete the Multiplying and Dividing 2-Digit Numbers worksheet. (Chambleys, I altered this document so you should be able to space bar over and type right on the document. No need to print it out.)
- Use your number cards to fill in each problem.
- Once all digits for the problem are filled in, solve the problem.
- ) Please complete one page of your PSSA Math packet. Fill in the definitions. Here is a suggestion for a great online math dictionary to use: https://www.mathsisfun.com/definitions/index.html
- Extra: Only do this activity if you want more practice.
- Play “Missing” at http://www.gregtangmath.com/missing
How is this assignment turned into the teacher?

Day 3 Chambley Writing
Overview: Revising & Editing an Informational Writing Piece
Estimated Time: Approximately 40 Minutes
Explanation: Today you will edit & revise your writing piece. Then you will ask someone to listen to you read it aloud. Finally, you will put their suggestions to good use and make changes to your piece.
Quick Things to Know:
- There is a bit more to do in writing today than we have had so far this week. Therefore, I am reducing the expectations in reading class to give you enough time.
- I will be commenting on every person’s writing piece by the end of the day tomorrow. I am finished commenting on about half the class. Use the comments on the side of the piece to help you make needed changes. Feel free to write back to me under the comments if you have questions. You can also click resolve to show you took care of a suggestion or comment I made.
- Your writing pieces are due by 5pm on Monday. It is hard to believe it is almost time for report cards with all the changes to our regular schedule, but it is. So I am giving you until Monday to finish the important task of Editing and Revising. You will be ‘sort-of peer editing’ with someone at home. You will also be teacher conferencing with me over Office 365.
- Link to our Writing Teams Page: https://teams.microsoft.com/l/channel/19%3abee94e9193494c198f6b0fa1f2e7d040%40thread.skype/General?groupId=4adee991-f22c-4b52-bc7d-11dbc8544e3c&tenantId=aa0b488f-fc9e-4185-a5e3-384220df23ca
- You will need to access your writing piece over Office 365. Remember, Mrs. Jansen’s website is an excellent resource if you forget how to do that. Link to Mrs. Jansen’s site: https://www.cbsd.org/Page/43506
- Remember you can reach me over Teams, email, or your parents can Remind App me.
Tasks:
- Open your writing piece. Click on the button at the top that asks you to view in Desktop Mode.
- Start here: Make sure your writing piece is in good shape: Follow this today if you need to…
- Choose an introduction from the ones you typed up (if you can’t decide- email them all to me and we can look at it together)
- Make sure the introduction is copied and pasted to the beginning of your document.
- Choose one conclusion that you write and liked the best. Make sure the conclusion is at the end of the piece.
- Open the Document called Informative Accountability Checklist. This is the same one we were using in class. Today we are continuing with steps 4, 5, & 6. You can check off the boxes of the tasks you already accomplished either at home or back at school.
- Open the Document called “How to Revise & Edit” it is on Teams under the Assignment and also in the Files section of Teams.
- Pretend this is me reviewing this with you in class as a lesson. Read it over and really think about it.
- Do the steps in sections 4, 5, & 6 in the Accountability Checklist keeping in mind the questions on the “How to Revise & Edit page”
- When it asks you to share with a peer, you can reach out to someone online to look at your piece or ask an adult at home to listen to you read it aloud. Ask the person working with you if any sentences sound awkward or unclear. Make a note of that and look at how you can clarify your writing. Thank the person who helped you.
- Make sure you have a clear thesis and that it is the last sentence of the intro paragraph
- Make sure the thesis is repeated, but paraphrased, in the conclusion sentence
- Type those changes right onto your piece.
- Be sure you have an exciting or interesting title
- Be sure you follow the directions carefully!
- Share your writing piece with me.
