    SEESAW: Directions to access at home

    1.  iPad - have students scan the class code (in their Grab Bag), and they will be able to view my activities and post! 

    2. On a laptop/computer:  Login through Clever (this is the easiest way)

    • Go to myapps.microsoft.com
    • Have students click on the Clever App
    • Select SeeSaw and …..they are in!
    • Students can create and post in your class

     

    Subject: Math

    Overview:  Adding and Subtracting Fractions 

    Estimated Time: Approximately 45 minutes 

    Explanation:   Today you will review adding and subtracting fractions.  Then, you will apply your knowledge to both create and answer a few problems.  

    Things to know: 

    • Fractions have a numerator (top number) and a denominator (bottom number). 
    • You will be adding and subtraction fractions with like denominators. 
    • You will be adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators. 
    • To find an equivalent fraction, multiply the numerator and denominator by the same number. 
    • Please visit https://www.cbsd.org/Page/1511 to access tutorial videos related to accessing online Math in Focus resources. 
    • If you do not have the supplied worksheets for this day, it is fine to create your own based off the supplied worksheets. 

     Tasks: 

    • Continue recording the daily temperature on your chart. 
    • Fraction Flip: 
    • You will need your number cards for this activity. 
    • Take a pencil, pen, straw, etc. and place in in front of you to make a horizontal line.   
    • Flip over one number card and place it above the horizontal line.  Flip over a second number card and place it below the horizontal line.   
    • Read the fraction you created, then share one equivalent fraction. 
    • Repeat Fraction Flip 10 times.   
    • Finish the Adding and Subtracting Fractions Worksheet. 
    • It is fine to rewrite the problems on a separate piece of paper to complete.   
    • Self-made Questions: 
    • You will need your number cards for this activity. 
    • Take a pencil, pen, straw, etc. and place in in front of you to make a horizontal line.  Place another pencil, pen, marker, straw, etc. and place in in front of you to make another horizontal line.    
    • Flip over one number card and place it above one of the horizontal lines.  Flip over a second number card and place it below one of the horizontal lines.  Continue until you have two fractions.   
    • Add or subtract the fractions.  Repeat 6 times.

    SUBJECT: Reading

    Overview: Vocabulary and comprehension questions. 

    Estimated TimeApproximately 60 minutes 

    Explanation of Assignment: Using your Tuck Everlasting packet you will complete the activities for day 3 on the reading guide. 

    Quick things to know 

    When responding to comprehension questions remember to use complete sentences and text evidence to support your response. 

    Tasks 

    1. Use context clues and resources to complete the vocabulary pages 11-12 in your packet. 
    1. Answer comprehension questions pages 13-15 
    1. When finished, take a picture of one of the activities you completed and post to Reading Day 3 in Seesaw.

    -If you do not have access to your Tuck Everlasting packet, I have included it as an assignment in Teams under reading. You can just use separate sheets of paper to complete the assignments.  

     

    SUBJECT: Writing

    Overview: Begin the rough draft of the words of your picture book  

    Estimated Time: Approximately 45 minutes  

    Explanation of Assignment: Using the packet titled, “Directions for Picture Book Assignment” you will follow Day 3 on the schedule.    

    Things to Know: All of the necessary elements that you filled into the “Story Elements Organizer” on Page 2 yesterday will need to be put into the rough draft of your story on the “Illustration and Scene Narration Organizer.” You may want to create a plot mountain on a separate sheet of paper to map out an entire overview of your plot and help you to pace your story appropriately. Today, you will be writing the rough draft words of the first 4 pages/scenes of your picture book starting on Page 3, “Illustration and Scene Narration Organizer,” in your packet.  

    Tasks:  

    1. Follow Day 3 on the schedule page of your “Directions for Picture Book Assignment”  
    2. Day 3 instructs you to complete Pages 3-4 in your “Directions for Picture Book Assignments  
    3. On pages 3-4 in your “Directions for Picture Book Assignment” you must write a rough draft of the words for your picture book for scenes 1-4. Each scene represents a different page for your picture book. Please do not start the illustrations. You should ONLY be writing the words for scenes 1-4 today.  Be sure as you write, you proofread for spelling, capitalization and punctuation. Vary your word choice and sentence structure to add style.  
    4. If you are finished early and are looking for additional practice, go onto your MobyMax account and work on Language

    3. The final picture book assignment will be handed-in in-person when we return to school. We will share our final picture books in small groups. 

     

     SUBJECT: Social Studies 

    Overview: Explore Hinduism and the Caste System 

    Estimated Time: Approximately 30 minutes 

    Explanation of Assignment: Using the purple History Alive interactive notebook or digitally on TCI, you will complete Section 3Hinduism and the Caste System   

    Things to Know: The chapter, Learning About World Religion: Hinduism, will take approximately 3 weeks to complete.  Students will be reading each section of the chapter and answering comprehension questions in their notebook. To conclude the chapter, students will complete a one-pager to showcase their new learning.  

    Tasks: 

    1.  Read chapter 15 section 3Hinduism and the Caste System on TCI.  All students have access to the text through Office 365 in their TCI app.  
    2. On the blank sheet of paper titled “Chapter 15 Vocabulary” that you created yesterday add the word casteYou can reveal the definition on TCI by clicking on the word when reading section 3 
    3. In the purple History Alive interactive notebook, that was sent home in the grab bag on Thursday, complete section 3 (numbers 1-3) that can be found on page 108 or access digitally on TCI in assignments.   
    4.  Post a picture of page 108 when finished on Teams in the Social Studies assignment tab.  
    5.  In the Social Studies folder on Teams, go to FILESCLASS MATERIALS→SOCIAL STUDIES DAY 2 IMAGES and look at image number one again.  Think about the following: What do you see? I what ways are these figures similar to each other? How are they different? What characteristics suggest that these figures are not human? What do you think these figures represent? Image number one represents Hindu beliefs about deities (gods)

    2. If you do not have access to your purple History Alive interactive notebook, I have included it as an assignment on TCI. You can complete digitally.
