Foundations of Engineering – 7th Grade

Before we begin, it is important that you understand a few terms that you are going to hear with Distance Learning.  They are:

    • Synchronous - This is direct instruction/interaction/feedback that happens with me. Examples are class meetings you attend through Microsoft Teams and office hours where you communicate with me real-time through e-mail. **Be on the lookout for when I invite you to a scheduled Microsoft Teams meeting. This is like being live in a class. Make sure to follow all classroom rules you normally would.  ALL MICROSOFT TEAMS MEETINGS ARE RECORDED
    • Asynchronous - This is work that I assign for the next class meeting that can be done at your own pace.

Please note this class meets on 1A,1B and 2 B, this is important because the B day and A day specials rotate on a week by week schedule! In addition to the period it corresponds with!

We will meet  Mondays either at 9:30 am or 12:00 pm depending on what period you have Foundations of Engineering on the following Days:

    Found Object Design Challenge

    3/31/2020 Day 5  pd 6 &7 A day

    Overview

I have only received five submissions of this challenge. If you have completed the challenge, thank you. If you need more time, take today and complete the challenge.

Jimmy Diresta is one of my favorite YouTube personalities.  He is a very talented person who really can make something out of nothing. I have selected three great examples of him making something out of nothing. Please watch the videos and take note of objects around your house that you could make into something. This is purely a design idea project; I am not asking you to build anything or destroy material you found at your house.

    Estimated Time

At least a half hour, would take closer to an hour if you actually sketch down some ideas.

    Explanation

Watch the videos and be creative. Look in the basement, attic, or even the trash for anything you can upcycle into a project.

    Materials needed

Your district laptop. Paper and pencil.

    Things to know

I want you to be creative.

I would like you to draw/sketch your idea(s) on a piece of paper.

I will be checking my email everyday at 8am and 4pm.

    Tasks

Take a picture of your sketched ideas and email them to me at bgood@cbsd.org
