    Day 2 Reading

    Overview: Generate inferences as you read

    Estimated Time: Approximately 60 minutes

    Explanation of Assignment: Using your Tuck Everlasting packet you will complete the activities for day 2 on the reading guide.

    Quick things to know

    Tasks

    1. Read Tuck Everlasting chapters 1-4
    2. As you read, jot down 5 inferences you make on page 10 of your packet.
    3. Throughout your reading of the novel
      1. Keep track of elements of realism and fantasy (packet page 7)
      2. Jot down a description and supporting text evidence (packet page 8)
      3. Keep track of each character’s feelings about living forever (packet page 9)
    4. When you have finished take a picture of something you completed and post it to Seesaw Reading Activity Day 2

    -If you do not have access to your Tuck Everlasting packet, I have included it as an assignment in Teams under reading. You can just use separate sheets of paper to complete the assignments.

    Writing: Day 2 

    Overview: Map out story elements for your chosen genre picture book 

    Estimated Time: Approximately 45 minutes 

    Explanation of Assignment: Using the packet titled, “Directions for Picture Book Assignment” you will follow Day 2 on the schedule.   

    Things to Know: As mentioned yesterday, it is important that the storyline that you choose for your picture book follow the elements of plot (exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution) that you have learning in class. In order to make sure that you include all necessary elements, you will be finishing the “Story Elements Organizer” today. 

    Tasks: 

    1. Follow Day 2 on the schedule page of your “Directions for Picture Book Assignment”
    2. Day 2 instructs you to complete Page 2, “Story Elements Organizer,” in your “Directions for Picture Book Assignments
    3. If you are finished early and are looking for additional practice, go onto your MobyMaxaccount and work on Language

    Math Day 2

    Overview:  Prime Numbers / Composite Numbers / Factors / Multiples

     

    Estimated Time: Approximately 45 minutes

     

    Explanation:   Today you will review prime and composite numbers, as well as complete activities using your knowledge of factors and multiples. 

     

    Things to know:

    • The following definitions can be used while completing the tasks for today.
      • prime number – a prime number has only two different factors, 1 and itself.
      • composite number – a composite number has more than 2 different factors.
      • factor – 12 can be divided exactly by 2. So, 2 is a factor of 12.
      • multiple – a multiple of a number is the product of the number and any other whole number except zero.
    • To review Prime Numbers / Composite Numbers / Factors / Multiples, please reference your workbook pages 1-34 (Chapter 1).
    • Please visit https://www.cbsd.org/Page/1511 to access tutorial videos related to accessing online Math in Focus resources.
    • The worksheet is available in the math section of Teams. If you do not have the supplied worksheets for this day, it is fine to create your own based off the supplied worksheets.

     

    Tasks:

    • Continue recording the daily temperature on your chart.
    • Prime/Composite:
      • Shuffle your set of number cards.
        • Flip over one card at a time. Determine if the number on the card is a prime number of a composite number. 
      • Shuffle your set of number cards again.
        • This time flip over two cards creating a 2-digit number
          • (ex: if you flip over a 4, then a 2, your number would be 42)
        • Determine if the number on the card is a prime number or a composite number.
      • Complete the PRIME/COMPOSITE T-Chart worksheet page.
        • You may develop numbers on your own or use your number cards to create numbers to sort into each category.
      • Factors:
        • Locate 5 numbers in your house. Each number must be a two digit number.  Fill in the Factors Chart for all 5 numbers. 
        • The Prime Factorization column is optional.
      • Multiples:
        • Complete the Multiples worksheet by writing the next multiples of a chosen number.

    Respond to the discussion question in the math section of Seesaw.  Take a picture of your work for the day and post to Seesaw math activity day 2.

     

    Social Studies: Day 2

    Overview: Explore the origins and beliefs of Hinduism

    Estimated Time: Approximately 30 minutes

    Explanation of Assignment: Using the purple History Alive interactive notebook or digitally on TCI, you will complete Section 2: The origins of Hinduism. 

    Things to Know: The chapter, Learning About World Religion: Hinduism, will take approximately 3 weeks to complete.  Students will be reading each section of the chapter and answering comprehension questions in their notebook. To conclude the chapter, students will complete a one-pager to showcase their new learning.

    Tasks:

    1. In the Social Studies folder on Teams, go to FILES→CLASS MATERIALS→SOCIAL STUDIES DAY 2 IMAGES and analyze the four pictures related to important beliefs in Hinduism. Share your thoughts with your parents, siblings, or someone close to you.  You will read about these beliefs and the ways they have affected daily life in India.
    2. Read chapter 15 section 2: The origins of Hinduism on TCI.  All students have access to the text through Office 365 in their TCI app.
    3. On a blank sheet of paper put the title “Chapter 15 Vocabulary” at the top.  Please keep a list of all vocabulary, with the definition, on this sheet of paper.  The five words you should have defined by the end of this section are: Hinduism, Vedas, Sanskrit, interpreting, and Brahmanism.  You can reveal the definition on TCI by clicking on the word when reading section 2.
    4.    In the purple History Alive interactive notebook, that was sent home in the grab bag on Thursday, complete section 2 (numbers 1-3) that can be found on page 108 or access digitally on TCI through assignments. 
    5. Post a picture of page 108 when finished on Teams in the Social Studies assignment tab.
