    Activity Day 3:

    Overview: Reading, Writing, and Sorting words with r-influenced Vowel Patterns -er, -ear, -eer, and -ear=ur

     

    Explanation:  Read, sort , and spell words with r-influenced Vowel Patterns -er, -ear, -eer, and -ear=ur

    /er/ sound spelled er like in her and spelled ear like in earn

    /ēr/ sound spelled -ear or -eer like in hear and deer

     

    Things to know:

    1. Sit with mom, dad, grandparent or guardian, or a brother or sister to reread your poem Arctic Fox.
    2. Use pages 34 and 36 in your WTW book found in your BEAR Binder.
    3. Specific directions are provided on the WTW page 36 in your BEAR Binder.

     

    Tasks:

    1. Read aloud the poem on page 36 three times. Record yourself reading the poem and post on Seesaw if you would like.
    2. Pull out your words on the rectangles, read, and sort.
    3. Complete page 36 in your BEAR binder. Be sure to write neatly and spell the words correctly.
    4. Go to Spelling City. Locate Sort 25 and work on one of the games. Here’s how to access Spelling City: https://www.spellingcity.com/
    • Click Search
    • Click Teachers/Parents
    • Type in Butlergrade2
    • Click on Butler Grade 2
    • Pick the sort we are studying
    • Choose a game

    Please note: We only have access to the free games. You may be able to access the premium games if you sign up, but it is not necessary.

    Day 3 Math: Adding and Subtracting Fluently Within 1,000

    Things to know:

    1. If you do not have the supplied worksheets or access to any of the worksheets, it is fine to create your own based off the supplied worksheets.
    2. More specific directions are provided on each sheet/activity that goes along with these lessons. I will send these sheets through email.

    Overview: Fact Fluency

    Explanation: You will practice your math facts

    Writing

    Opinion Writing- Planning day

    Estimated time 30 minutes

     

    Step 1- Prompt: Think of a new toy that you really want. How could you convince Mom or Dad to let you get it?

     

    Step 2- Discussion Questions

    What toy do you want?

    Why do you want it?

    What would you do with this toy?

    Why should your parents get it for you?

    How will you feel if your parents get the toy for you?

     

    Step 3- Planning

    Use the Opinion organizer (with 4 reason boxes) that is in your writing packet.

    Think of how you will state your opinion.

    Sketch your ideas in each reason box.

     

    Step 4- Save this completed organizer to use tomorrow with your next steps of writing!

     

    Grade 2, Day 3: Reading

    Total estimated time: 65 minutes

    Independent Reading – 20 minutes

    Find a great spot to independently read for 20 minutes. Make it cozy with a stuffed animal friend, pet, or sibling. I hope you let the book you selected take you on a great adventure!

    My Book Review – 45 minutes

    Step 1: In your Friends Anthology read Watch Out, Ronald Morgan! on pages 204-223

    Step 2: In your grab bag, take out the graphic organizer entitled “My Book Review”. If you do not have the grab bag, use paper and pencil.

    Step 3: Complete the book review and decide how many “stars” to give the story. 5 stars means it was a GREAT story.

    Step 4: Illustrate and color your favorite part of the story.

    Step 5: Feel free to post your review on SeeSaw!

     

     

    Science / Social Studies

    Estimated time: 30 minutes

     Seesaw activity – “How is a rainbow made?”

     

    Tasks:
