    Staying Healthy: Exercise

    • Read about how to stay healthy
    • Tell me ONE thing you can do to stay healthy 
    • When you are done to save your response.

    Tuesday:

    Senses Vocab Words

    • Look at the picture and the matching words. These are your new vocabulary words.
    • Read the words aloud. 

    Wednesday:

    Read the book Senses from Reading A-Z.

    • Read/Listen to the book Senses 
    • Then go back and listen to the book another time. 

     

    Thursday 23rd:

     Senses Word Work

    • Look through the 5 senses cards and definitions. 
    • Go to pages 3-5 with the Cloze sentences. 
    • Write in the correct word for each sentence. 
    • Take the quiz on page 
    • Click to add to your journal.

     Friday 24th: 

    Read from EPIC or Reading A-Z any book of your choice.

     

    Date: Tuesday April 14- Friday April 17:  Please log into your Seesaw site and follow the directions for assigments for each subject area. There will be a Reading, Writing, Phonics and Math assignment for each day. If you don't understand something, don't worry. Just do your best and I am here to guide you along the way. You have all been doing a wonderful job logging into Seesaw and doing your work every day! Yay! :)

     

    Dates: April 6-April 8: Please log into your Seesaw site and follow the directions for assigments for each subject area. There will be a Reading, Writing, Phonics and Math assignment for each day. If you don't understand something, don't worry, just do your best and I am here to guide you along the way.

    • Please complete any of the activities I have posted that you have not been able to get to/do.  Students may work on these activities. I will be conducting conferences during this week and begin to plan for the Phase 2 DLP, Distance Learning Plan.
    • I will reach out to parents via Talking Points with my conference schedule and to confirm the date and time that we had previously arranged for your child's conference. 
    • All conferences will be done over the phone via a language interpreter, Language Line. As always, you can email me at cmeyers@cbsd.org if you have any questions, or need to change a conference time.

    o Students will go to EPIC and read a passage of their choosing.

    • Quick things to know

    o There are many different reading levels to choose from. Students can even select a passage to be read aloud to them in the READ TO ME category. Also, Spanish is available.

    • Tasks

    o Open by clicking on the link: EPIC

    • Read entire story.

     o Write a summary of what the story was about in your own words. Try to include the story elements: characters, setting, beginning, middle, end and the conflict of the story.

    o Students will go to Seesaw and fill out a BOOK Recommendation

    • Quick things to know

    o Student can choose whatever book they want to recommend.

    • Choose: Book Recommendation and Rating

    Follow prompts:

    • Tap the green add button to begin.
    • Tap the label tool and complete each of the sections to the best of your ability. Rate your book from 1 (not recommended) to 5 (best book ever). Choose one emoji that represents something important from your book. Make a separate label, with one emoji, for each of your ratings and drag it into the correct spot.
    • Tap check to move on.
    • Tap the microphone to record your ten-second recommendation. Share what you liked about the book and why you think others might like this book, too.
    • Post your work.

    • Estimated Time: 30 minutes (15 min reading and 15 min 6 short answer)

    o Students will read article and answer questions about their reading.

    • Quick things to know: this article may be easy for some but hard for others. There is a link to article below, but this is also located in your ELD Distance Learning Folder I sent home with you.

    O Tasks: Read one page article and respond to questions.

    Option 2: Writing Addresses: students will practice writing addresses

    • Estimated Time: 25 minutes
    • Explanation of Activity/Assignment

    o Students will complete a worksheet from superteacherworksheets.com.

    • Quick things to know

    o Learning how to write an address is a very important thing to learn how to write! When you write addresses:

    1. Use a capital letter to write the name of the person, street, town, city, and state
    2. Use a period after an abbreviation in a street name.
    3. Use a comma to separate the city and state.
    • Tasks

    o 1. Correct the addresses on the worksheet. 2. Then you can address an envelope and mail the thank you note to someone (Mom, Dad, Grandmom, hint hint)

    Option 1: Interview a Family Member

    Interview a Family Member and post on SeeSaw

    • Estimated Time: 30 minutes
    • Explanation of Activity/Assignment

    o Students will interview a family member. It can be about anything….(Even though is says it should include MATH) How about what the Corona virus quarantine means to them.

    • Quick things to know

    o Your video only needs to be 1 minute long. 

    • Tasks

    O Interview Family member. Ask them questions and report via video on Seesaw, OR you can interview them directly on Seesaw.

    Family Interview: How do you use math? Or Whatever questions you would like to ask them!

    • The instructions say to specifically ask about how you use Math everyday. You may ask whatever interview questions you like. Even ask them their thoughts on the Corona virus?

    o Students will complete a worksheet from superteacherworksheets.com and respond in writing.

    • Quick things to know

    o A Thank you note is a very important thing to learn how to write!

    o Learn the parts and then write a thank you note to someone in your house (Mom or Dad, hint hint) 

    Please make it heartfelt but be sure to include all the 5 parts. 😊

     

     

    Date: March 23, 2020 I hope that you had a nice weekend with your families! I have been taking lots of walks with my doggies, and lots of time with my husband and boys. We started playing a really fun game called Catan. I miss seeing your faces! Here are today's assignments. 

    Option 1: Overview: Synonyms and Antonyms

    • Estimated Time: 30 minutes
    • Explanation of Activity/Assignment

    o Students will go into their ELD folder and find the worksheet that is titled: Synonyms and Antonyms

    • Quick things to know 

    o Synonyms are words that have almost the same meaning. The words big and large are synonyms. Antonym are words that have the opposite meanings. Example: The words open and closed are antonyms.

    • Tasks

    o Students will tell whether the pair of words given are synonyms or antonyms. 

    o Then will then write one complete sentence that includes two words that are antonyms. (They may use this Dictionary if they don't know a word.)

     

    Option 2: Overview: Seesaw Activity

    • Estimated Time: 30 minutes
    • Explanation of Activity/Assignment

    o Students will go onto Seesaw and follow directions to Book Recommendation and Rating. Here is a link to my Seesaw

    • Quick things to know

    o First student will login into Seesaw and use their QR code for our class. This is located in their ELD folder I sent home. 

    • Tasks

    o Open Seesaw and login to our class: ELD 4th or ELD 5th. 

    o Click on Activities

    o Scroll down to find the one entited: Book Recommendation and Rating

    o Follow the directions which I have pasted here as well.

    o Overview: Synonyms

    • Estimated Time: 30 minutes
    • Explanation of Activity/Assignment

    o Students will go into their ELD folder and find the worksheet that is titled: Synonyms

    • Quick things to know

    o Synonyms are words that have almost the same meaning.

    • Tasks

    o Students will circle the two synonyms in each set of words.

    o Then they should write a synonym for each word. You may ask a sibling or parent if you don't know what the word is. (or look it up here Dictionary)

    o As an extension: Student will write 5 sentences. Students may use one of the synonym words in a complete sentence. They can write 5 sentences on the back of the worksheet.

    * Alternate extension: go to Flipgird or Seesaw and record yourself telling a short story that includes a few of synonym words. Have fun :)!

    Welcome to my distance learning classroom!

    ELD 4th and 5th grades should utilize one of the following lessons each day. Feel free to have siblings work together. Most of all, we want students to be engaged and enjoying their learning at home! 

    o Overview:

    Option 1: Reading Comprehesion 

    • Estimated Time: 30 minutes
    • Explanation of Activity/Assignment

    o Students will read passage and answer comprehension questions attached to the passage.

    • Quick things to know

    o I have included varying reading levels in your Child's ELD folder depending upon their reading level.

    • Tasks

    o Open Folder, and select a reading passage.

    o Read entire passage. 

    o Make note of words that you do not know. You can underline or highlight them. Look up these words here: Dictionary if you don't know them.

    o Answer questions at the end. Some are short answer. Some ask for full sentences. Please read the directions.

     

    Option 2: Seesaw Activity

    o Students will go onto Seesaw and follow directions to Please Please the Bees. Here is a link to my Seesaw

    • Quick things to know

    o Follow the directions which I have pasted here as well.

    • 1. 👂Listen to the story "Please Please The Bees" by clicking on the link.
    • 2. 🗣 Talk about why the bees went on strike and how that changed the Bear's daily schedule.
    • 3. 💡 Think about how Bear changed his behavior to respect the bees and show his appreciation for their hard work.
    • 4. Write a thank-you letter to a person in your life that works hard to make your life "sweet". Use complete sentences.
