    Option 1:  Click https://tinyurl.com/y85n5xw6 and use your school login and password.

    Option 2: Go to www.cbsd.org/365 and login into your Office 365 account.

    • Click the  waffle  in the upper left corner.  
    • Then clickall appsat the bottom of the menu.

    Overview

    • Animals that live in the deep ocean spend most of their life in complete darkness.  An adaptation that helps animals survive in the deep ocean is

      • Define Bioluminescence.  Explain how it can help species survive and reproduce in the deep ocean?

  • Topic

    •  Mapping the Ocean Floor

    Overview

    • During this activity, you will calculate ocean depth, create graphs of ocean floor depths and label their features.

    Tasks

    Complete the following three assignments on Canvas under “Distance Learning Week 2”.

    • Open the word document below and first begin by calculating the ocean depth at five locations.  Make sure to use the correct equation!
    • Next, you will create a Atlantic Profile and Pacific Profile graph.  Open the Excel link below and follow the directions on your Ocean Floor Excel activity worksheet in order to make your graphs.  
    • Copy and paste your Atlantic and Pacific graph into your Ocean Floor Excel activity worksheet.  Label the ocean floor features by using your pen!  Use your notes as guidance.
    • Finally, complete the three analysis questions and upload your Ocean Floor Excel activity worksheet to Canvas.

  • Topic

    •  The Power of the Planet-Oceans
      • How have the oceans transformed (influenced) our planet?
      • Where do ocean waves get their energy?  What causes a wave to break?
      • What causes the tides?

    Overview

    • We will finish Earth: The Power of the Planet - Oceans (Part 1) video.  The main theme from the series focuses on the interconnectedness of Earth's spheres.  The ocean section will discuss how the ocean has transformed our planet as well as influence the other spheres: Geosphere, Atmosphere, and Biosphere.

    Tasks

    1. Watch the Power of the Planet video—Oceans from 36:37-END. This video was emailed to you last week!
    2. Finish completing the “Power of the Planet” worksheet while watching the video segment. The questions are in the order of the video.  Today, you will answer questions #9-12.  Upload your completed worksheet to Canvas. (~20 mins.)
    3. After viewing the video, complete the “Ocean Floor Labeling Practice” (~10mins)

    • Overview: Hydrothermal vents are located on the deep ocean floor and are only 100 meters wide and 10 meters high. In a vast ocean, how could researchers find a hydrothermal vent at the bottom of the sea?
    • Estimated time: 30 minutes
    • Explanation: Please go to our Science Canvas page and complete all activities under Tuesday, March 17th for the "Distance Learning Week 1" module.Tasks:1. Complete and submit your 14.2 review questions located under "Distance Learning Week 1" module on canvas, if you haven't already.2. Next, click on "AMNH Find a plume, find a vent activity-2" and watch the TED ED video on Hydrothermal Vents (5 mins)3. After viewing the video, complete the "Find a plume, find a vent" worksheet by using the library and expedition websites. (25 mins)4. Finally, submit your worksheet on Canvas when completed.
