• Distance Learning Class Expectations-Mr. Levenson

On Monday, April 6th, Central Bucks will begin with Phase 2 of its Distance Learning Plan (DLP). This will continue until we are told otherwise.  I have created this reference guide for both you and your parents to use and refer to at any point during Phase 2 of the DLP. If you have any questions feel free to email me: jlevenson@cbsd.org between 8:30 AM and 2:30 PM

Before we begin, it is important that you understand a few terms that you are going to hear with Distance Learning.  They are:

    • Synchronous- This is direct instruction/interaction/feedback that happens in real-time with me. Examples are class meetings you attend through Microsoft Teams and office hours where you communicate with me real-time through e-mail. **Be on the lookout for when I invite you to a scheduled Microsoft Teams meeting. This is like being live in a class. Make sure to follow all classroom rules like you normally would.  ALL MICROSOFT TEAMS MEETINGS ARE RECORDED
    • Asynchronous- This is work that I assign for the next class meeting that can be done at your own pace. I would recommend using the time allotted in blue on the chart below to get your work done.

So, when does my science class meet?

On the following page, find your specific science class period to see what we’ll be doing and when we’ll do it. The only change is that the live office hours (synchronous) and asynchronous learning are a block of time of 2.5 hrs. The live office hours (synchronous) can occur anytime within the block you will be completing science work. Expect a TEAMS invite to join with the time indicated on the invitation. Please accept all invitations when your receive them.

Period 1: On Monday’s at 9:30 AM you will sign into my science canvas and see the lesson activity for the week we are on. You will open the week’s lesson and begin the activities listed. Sometime between 9:30 AM and 12:00 Noon, we will do our synchronous (LIVE class/discussion/go over previous work) session. You will get an invite each time from me, however this time may change from week to week due to my changing personal family schedule. We will meet for approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour and this will be a chance for some direct instruction and an opportunity for you to ask questions. The time we will meet will be posted on your weekly canvas lesson. Once our live session is complete you will resume the science activities from canvas and submit the required assignments before the start of the next class.

How do I find information and assignments for class?

This is very important: I WILL CONTINUE TO USE MY CANVAS PAGE LIKE I HAVE BEEN SINCE WE LEFT SCHOOL. NOTHING CHANGES WITH THIS!!

IN ADDITION, YOU WILL RECEIVE AN INVITE TO OUR CLASS’S WEEKLY MICROSOFT TEAMS MEETING.  THAT MEANS:

**IF YOU DO NOT RECIEVE YOUR INVITE, THEN YOU MUST REACH OUT TO ME BECAUSE SOMETHING IS NOT WORKING WITH THE TECHNOLOGY!!

How will I be graded in this class during our Distance Learning?

You will be graded on a PASS/FAIL format. No letter grades, but everything that is a 70% or higher is considered passing and everything below a 70% is considered failing.

ALL ASSIGNMENTS MUST BE TURNED IN THROUGH CANVAS. This should not be a problem since we have been doing this all year long. If this is a problem, please contact me and we can figure out the issue.

    EXPECTATIONS FOR MICROSOFT TEAMS MEETINGS

    1. Remember that you are using a Central Bucks program on your district laptop to communicate with your classmates as well as your teacher—all school rules apply—please act accordingly.
    2. If you have HEADPHONES, I highly recommend using them.
    3. ALL MICROSOFT TEAMS MEETINGS ARE RECORDED

If you are not using headphones, please MUTE YOUR MICROPHONE upon entering the chat. Otherwise, we get an echo (echo, echo, echo…). When you would like to speak, simply unmute your mic.
