ENGLISH 9:
Overview - You are going to review what THEME is and how to identify a theme within a piece of text.
Estimated Time - 30 minutes
Explanation of Activity/Assignment - You are going to need your IReady "Determining Theme" packet given to you in class on Thursday. You will also need your laptop opened and logged onto IReady online.
1. First Review what theme is using the Powerpoint on my Canvas page (Reading Module, then scroll down to Ready Lesson - Determining Theme)
2. After you review what theme is, you will use the PowerPoint and the IReady packet to help you complete each activity.
3. You will need to complete pages 1-5. STOP when you reach the reading from Little Women.
4. Once you have completed the IReady theme packet pages 1-5, log onto IReady online to complete 1 theme lesson posted.
Quick things to know - As you complete the IReady pages 1-5 you must read the direcrions carefully, as well as, complete the "Close Reading" activities on the side of the page.
Tasks - Complete pages 1-5 in IReady "Determining Theme" packet. Use PowerPoint on Canvas page to help you work through the questions. Then, Log onto Iready online to complete 1 teacher added lesson on Theme.

READING 9:
Overview - Read part 1 of Ch. 13 of our in class novel - Boy in the Striped Pajams with part 1 of the Ch. 13 comprehension questions
- Read pages 134-141 and answer Ch. 13 questions in your comprehension packet #'s 1-14
- THEN STOP.
Estimated Time - 30 minutes
Explanation of Activity/Assignment - Read part 1 of Ch. 13. As you read, stop from time to time to ask yourself if Bruno is beginning to understand more about who Pavel is (Prisoner vs. Farmer). Once you have completed part 1 of the chapter, complete questions 1-14 of the chapter 13 comprehension questions in your packet.
Quick things to know - An additonal PDF copy of Boy in the Striped Pajamas is on my Canvas page (Reading Module), as well as, the audio version in case you prefer to listen. Please try your best to complete part 1 of the chapter 13 comprehension questions. They will help guide you through understanding the key events within the chapter.
Tasks - Read part 1 of Ch. 13 (Pages 134-141) AND complete part 1 of the Ch. 13 comprehension questions (1-14).
