-play SOME guitar (Je joue DE LA guitare.)

    -Pg 188

    -Déjà Vu

    -grammar box

    -GrammaVision (les cacahuètes!)

-note:  the type of article you use to say what you are having/eating/drinking also depends on the context

              -You pour yourself SOME oj

-but at the cafeteria, you buy a single serving carton = AN oj

-You scoop out SOME ice cream

-but at the ice-cream truck, you buy AN ice cream

                                   -you order THE ice cream.

-List of SIX activities to do and submit to me via email:

-text pg 188: Interactive GRAMMAR TUTOR

    -just exs A, B, C

Three things to point out about GT ex C:

    (1) for question deux, the answer is de (They didn't even list this as an option!  You're saying that you have need OF pepper.  If you saw the pepper mill on the table, you could say that you have need OF THE pepper.)

    (2) for some items, based on the size, you could either have SOME OF it, or ONE/A.  At home, I might eat ONE/A salad, or I might serve myself SOME salad from the big salad bowl.  So, when there are two possible ways to interpret it, if your first thought doesn't work (such as A salad), try the other possibility (SOME salad).

    (3) I don't know who puts MILK into a JUICE mixture.  That's just gross!

    3.SPEAKING and LISTENING REVIEW ACTIVITIES

-These should be done out loud. I strongly recommend doing them with a partner:

    -From the on-line book

    -Pg 166 ex 27

    -Pg 166 ex 28

    -pg 167:

    -easier option: ex 30

-say what these people are going to do, and where

-#1:  Olivier va faire du vélo à la montagne.

-more challenging option : ex 29

                   -A :  say the weather

-B :  based on the weather, say if the person(s) is(are) going to do that activity, or is(are) NOT going to do that activity

-A: if your partner says that the person(s) is(are) NOT going to do that activity, say what other (more weather appropriate) activity the person(s) is(are) going to do.

    4.NEW VERB + GRAMMAR :

    -Text Pg 168:

-Read the Grammar box about the verb *VENIR = to come

-Notice that we use the verb it in two basic ways in French

    (1) Origin: I come from Princeton each morning.

    (2) Recent Past: I come from eating a croissant = I just ate a croissant.

Note:  this is the opposite of the immediate future:  I’m going to eat a croissant

-to go and to come are opposites

-you are going to do something; you come FROM doing something

-notice that for the recent past, you also need the FROM = DE/D’

-GrammaVision videoclip (you do not need to use your Media Guide)

-on YouTube: Very helpful learning videos about VENIR and the recent/near past

(Remember that you can speed up or slow down the videos, and that you should pause and answer/repeat.)

You need to watch ALL six of these videos, and in this order:

-just the present tense of the verb *VENIR = to come; FrenchEzi (3’48”)

                            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXIXh-Co7B0

-mostly the present tense of VENIR, plus some examples in the recent past; The Traveling Linguist (2’11”)

                            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6fmDrArpGWE

-just one verb in the recent past, all the conjugations; Learn French Lab (0’40”)

                            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHKQ3HOeNgk

-recent past explained by a teacher, with timelines and everything! = to come; Madame Beckwith (3’35”)

                            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n__82SdIbDo

-really good explanation of the recent past, with lots of examples; FrenchEzi (6’03” but you can stop at 5’02”)

                            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7CQrrMflCK8

-just the present tense of the verb *VENIR = to come; French lessons by Indu (8’11”):

-Pay particular attention to how she changes sentences from the present tense to the immediate past:

-ex: We study >>>>> We come from studying = We just studied

                            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljtjVu8fb8o

You will need to send that lesson’s work to me by the end of that day (4/17).  Again, I recommend working ahead so that you are more or less in step with the other French One classes.  It will make your life less hectic.  In fact, during our live Meeting on Thursday morning, I will be happy to answer questions about both the first and the second lessons.
