Drug and Alcohol Awareness - 2020
The Central Bucks School District collaborated with CB Cares Educational Foundation, the office of Bucks County District Attorney Matt Weintraub, Doylestown Health, and the Bucks County Drug & Alcohol Commission (BDAC) to bring resources and information to families during the district's Drug and Alcohol Awareness/Parent Positive event.
A resource provider showcase started the event - with more than 20 different legislators and health and human services organizations represented. Download a guide to these providers with links to all websites for more information.
The event featured a "Behind Closed Doors Mock Teen Bedroom" exhibit provided by the Bensalem Police Department, a Parent Positive presentation on vaping and cannabis risks by Doylestown Health's Director of Pharmacy Dr. Christine Roussel, and a panel discussion.
During his keynote address, District Attorney Weintraub presented two cash rewards to police officers representing anonymous tipsters. The tipsters submitted information that led to drug arrests in Quakertown and Warminster townships. The "Push out the Pusher" program, administered through Bucks County Crimestoppers, encourages the public to play a more active role in keeping their community safe and unwelcome for drug pushers by inviting the public to submit tips to 215-345-3784 with information that could lead to the arrest and conviction of a drug dealer. Tips may lead to an award up to $5,000.
The panel discussion, led by Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education Dr. Abram Lucabaugh followed, including Matt Weintraub; BDAC Executive Director Diane Rosati; Dr. Roussel; Assistant Medical Director of Doylestown Hospital's Emergency Medical Department, Dr. Brenda Foley; and Robert Edgar, co-founder of the Bucks County Grandfamilies Support Group.
