Hello! If you are looking to try out for soccer this is the spot for you! Below is all of the information you will need to know about getting started. If you have any other questions, please stop by room 324 before school or before your lunch to ask.
What do I need to do before we start?
All students need to complete the Concussion test prior to the season beginning. If you have not yet completed it this school year, please contact Mr. Beyerle to set up a time and date. All students must also sign up with Family ID and hand in a completed a PIAA physical form in order to try out. All links are on Unami’s Athletics website.
When do tryouts and practice begin?
March 2020 will be out first practices/tryouts. Please make sure to check the announcements for any cancellations. Practice will run 2:45 - 4:00. Players will need to be picked up at 4:00 each of these days.
Will there be cuts?
Whether or not there will be cuts depends on how many student athletes try out. Hopefully, cuts will not be necessary, so everyone will be able to participate! If tryouts are needed: All players will be evaluated during tryouts based on their soccer skills (ball control, possession, passing/receiving, vision of field etc), fitness, teamwork and attitude. Players can try out for a specific position or offense/defense. Players will be asked to be versatile in their willingness to play different positions in their area of comfort.
What should I wear?
All players are responsible to wearing appropriate soccer attire in accordance with both school rule dress policy as well as PIAA soccer standards. Each player will be required to wear shin guards and cleats. It is recommended that players bring a water bottle to practice. If they forget or do not have one, they will be able to use the water fountains in the school building. It is also recommended but not required that they bring running shoes to change into for fitness. Players may bring soccer balls if they choose, but do not have to. The spring weather is very unpredictable to please dress in layers!
When will practices be during the season?
Practice will run (weather permitting) Monday through Thursday 2:45-4 on all school days. Players should refer to the daily announcements for practice cancellation or changes. Players are expected to come to practice each day prepared with cleats, shin guards, appropriate clothing and water. If a player is unable to attend a practice, this should be reported to the coach through email or conversation. Players are expected to attend all practices in order to continue to build individual skills, team cohesion, sportsmanship and hopefully, continuing to have fun.
When are our games?
All games will occur after school beginning between 3:15 and 3:30. Games consist of two 30 minute halves with a 5-minute half time. If you are being picked up by a parent from an away game, you MUST turn in a note either hand written or by email. An updated schedule will be provided to all players if any changes to the below schedule are made.
