WHITESHEETS

  • Specific Possible topics for the current whitesheet include :

    • Share with me something of VALUE that you think I should know…. About you…about me …about lesson(s) learned in Band that are now a part of your philosophies……..etc.
    • Thoughts on the year(s) so far in Band
    • Thoughts on our most recent performances and rehearsals

WHAT IS A WHITE SHEET? A white sheet is a written assignment (like an essay) that a band member completes that allows them to share their thoughts, opinions, suggestions, commentary, ideas, hopes, dreams, fears, emotional connections to the music, life stories, etc.... In general, there is NO prompt (although I may suggest an idea or two) You provide your own prompt based on what you have experienced in band rehearsals and performances, as well as what you have experienced in your own life. In providing this information to me, you assist me in structuring a more personal band experience for each band member in the hopes of making a better class for everyone.

    WHITE SHEET GUIDELINES:
    • The only real RULE when you write a white sheet is that I am NOT interested in having you write your opinions about whether or not you LIKE or DISLIKE a particular piece of music. If you want to write about your performance preferences or interpretations, that is fine, but do not write a white sheet assignment that only tells me that you like or dislike pieces of music we are playing.
    • There is no specific length requirements, but the White Sheet is only effective if it is long enough to SHARE your thoughts, opinions, suggestions, stories, educational experiences, etc. A White Sheet that is only a few sentences is generally NOT in line with this goal.

OTHER Possible topics for a Whitesheet

    • READ ideas and insights about music, rehearsals, band on my website or elsewhere and provide feedback and commentary.

    • Reflection about success or failure (group or personal) in rehearsals or performances

    • Insights into how rehearsals could be more effective for the group or for you as an individual

    • Insights into how rehearsals could be more meaningful for you individually

    • Reflections on favorite ideas or concepts that were a part of rehearsals

    • Opinions on how the performance of a piece of music can be improved in YOUR opinion(ex. If this section were performed faster I feel that the piece of music would have more energy.)

    • Thoughts about your own skills and performance in class…in regards to both success and difficulty

    • Sharing your musical or life experiences that might relate to a particular piece of music or rehearsal topic

    • Thoughts about techniques and skills that you would like to learn or improve on in your own playing.

    • Commentary on your opinions on decisions that are made regarding your band.
