How to Pick the “Just Right” Book
In order to identify the “just right” book for you, answer the following questions under each category. Where does your book fit?
“Vacation” Books (Too Easy)
A “vacation” book is fine to read every once in awhile but not all the time.
- Have you read it several times already?
- Do you understand the story easily?
- Can you read every word quickly with little effort?
- Can you read it fluently?
“Just Right” Books
A “just right” book is not too hard and not too easy. You will improve your reading stamina by reading “just right” books.
- Is this a new book for you?
- Do you understand most of the book but need to think about other parts of the book?
- Are there 3 or 4 words on a page that you do not recognize?

- Are you confused about what is happening in most of the book?
- Is it difficult to sound fluent?
- Do you have someone to read the book with you and help you understand?
