The Ronald W. LaMar Memorial Scholarship, and accompanying concert, were established in 2015 following the passing of beloved Central Bucks music educator Ron LaMar. Mr. LaMar was most recently the band director at Tohickon Middle School, but he had a long and successful career as a band director. According to his family, "Ron accepted the position as Director of the 23 member Penn Wood High School band in Delaware County, PA. The band flourished under his leadership and grew to 120 members strong. He later accepted the position of Director of the Central Bucks High School West band in Doylestown, PA. This band program again was in need of growth and grow it did. In 2002 Ron proudly became the first director of the Tohickon Middle School Band, the newest school in Central Bucks."For the last few years of Mr. LaMar's life he battled cancer. However, he always did his best to not let it affect the person who he was. He was a loving husband, a caring father, a devoted brother and son, a trusted friend, an inspirational teacher, and a willing mentor generous with his time and knowledge. No concern was too small if it was troubling someone and no problem was too insurmountable that it could not be solved. He was dedicated and passionate, and he fought until the very end when he could fight no more.Everyone who came into contact with Mr. LaMar could not help but leave as a better person - one with a huge smile and MANY hilarious stories and memories. That was just him - he left an indelible mark on the lives of everyone he met. He championed music education and made his students love music (and life) just as much as he did. Even in his passing he will continue to do the same. He is gone but certainly not forgotten, and this is why the Central Bucks School District Music Department is honored and proud to present the scholarship and concert in memory of our dear friend and colleague, Mr. Ronald W. LaMar.
