Mr. C and the Bands

Joel Chodoroff, or “Mr. C,” is in his 28th year as a music educator in the state of Pennsylvania, and his 23rd here at Holicong. Prior to teaching in Central Bucks, Mr. C was the band director at both Penn Wood East and Penn Wood West Junior High Schools in the William Penn School District (Delaware County) where he was a founding director and conductor of the Southern Delaware County Middle School Honors Band.  Since moving to Holicong, Mr. C has received several nominations for the GRAMMY Music Educator Award, been awarded the CB Golden Apple Award for excellence in education and helped found the Central Bucks Middle School Honors Band with the late Mr. Ron LaMar.  He was also the drumline instructor/arranger and assistant director for the Central Bucks East Marching Patriots.  When not teaching, Mr. C's career as a working musician has afforded him the opportunity to perform at venues such as The Hard Rock Café, The Kimmel Center, many major casinos in Atlantic City, The PNC Arts Center in Holmdel, NJ, and Philadelphia’s own Lincoln Financial Field.  He has also been fortunate enough to perform on the same bill with such acts as The Four Tops, LeAnn Rimes, Keith Urban, and Kenny Chesney.   Currently, Mr. C is the proud founder of Class Act, a premier wedding and event band in the tri-state area.  Mr. C's drumming can be heard on The Mango Men’s 2008 release, Everyday’s A Saturday, The Temple University Wind Ensemble’s national release featuring Karel Husa’s Music for Prague 1968, and Primadonna’s 2000 album, Not Having Fun.  Mr. C and his wife, Jeannine, currently reside in Bucks County, PA, with their four children.

The Holicong Bands have enjoyed much success under the baton of Mr. C.  The program features 3 curricular bands and 2 extra-curricular bands, and is annually the home to over 150 Holicong students.  The 7th grade, 8th grade and 9th grade bands pride themselves on playing a diverse selection of grade-appropriate music with the utmost musicality.  The Jazz Ensemble consistently receives high ratings and outstanding feedback from area judges, and the Wind Ensemble has continually earned top ratings at PMEA (Pennsylvania Music Educators Association) adjudications across the region.

Mr. C and the Holicong Band pride themselves on thinking outside of the box, and coming up with new and exciting concerts/concepts each and every year.  There are constant collaborations with the rest of the Holicong Music Department, a joint performance featuring Holicong's Jazz and Wind Ensembles and the Bucks County School of the Performing Arts, and many other musical opportunities and experiences throughout the year.

If you are an incoming 7th grade student who has played a band instrument in elementary school, please stick with it and join us here at Holicong.  If you are a current Holicong Band member, again, stick with it!  There are a lot of great musical opportunities awaiting you here at Holicong.....
