Hello Mill Creek families,
My name is Cindy Jansen, and this is my 5th year of teaching QUEST (Questioning and Understanding through Engineering, Science, and Math) here at Mill Creek Elementary. I am very excited to be working with the QUEST teachers at all of the other elementary schools this year to provide inspiring activities for your children.
I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, with Early Childhood Certification, from Miami University of Ohio. Over the past 30 years, I have taught in Ohio, Texas, and Pennsylvania in primary, intermediate, PEN, and Reading classrooms. In 2000, I earned my Masters in Reading from Arcadia University. More recently, I achieved National Board Certification in 2003 and 2013.
With the QUEST program at Mill Creek, my goal is to prepare students to become critical and innovative thinkers. Students will engage in inquiry based, real world problem solving that promotes collaboration and creativity. My philosophy is that good questions lead to great discoveries. Helping students to wonder about the world around them will further develop the skills they need to become passionate, life-long learners. Learning to work through challenges and learn from obstacles will help students develop self-confidence in their abilities as well as problem solving skills. Finally, the ability to collaborate with others is essential in life. Learning to communicate effectively with peers, think critically to solve problems, and compromise with others in team challenges will strengthen their collaborative skills.
