Communications – I think communication between home and school is extremely important. To help keep you informed of what we are doing in school, I will be sending a weekly email update. I will also be sending home a newsletter on Thursday afternoons with your child (AMA: Ask Me About).
Contacting me - The best way to contact me is via email (email@example.com). If you have a quick question, the easiest way is to email me. If you have a concern and would like to speak with me, please let me know a good time to call and I will be happy to speak with you before or after school. If you have any questions or would like to leave a voicemail, please call the office at 267-893-4350.
Absences - You must write a note and send it to school after every absence. (Children entering school after 8:35 must be signed in at the office). If your child is sick, please email firstname.lastname@example.org. You do not need to send a note to me, but I always appreciate the heads up and will forward your email to the office. I will catch your child up on whatever work they miss when they return.
Vacations during the school year - If your family takes a vacation during the school year, please pick up a form from the office. Children are allowed 5 excused absences for travel per school year. We will not send home work to complete while you are away, your child will make it up after they return.
Birthdays – Birthday treats in the form of food are not permitted at school. However, we are happy to celebrate your child’s special day in another way. Feel free to send pencils, erasers, or stickers in for the class. You can also donate a book to our school or classroom library in honor of your child’s special day.
Snack - We have a small snack every day. Please remember to send one EVERY day (I have extras just in case they forget).
Lunch - If you are sending a packed lunch, please be sure to label the lunch box/bag with your child’s name/room number (room 2). If your child is buying lunch in the cafeteria, please be sure to send the money in a sealed envelope/baggie labeled with your child’s name and room number (room 2) or open a lunch account. A lunch account is the easiest way for your child to purchase a lunch, snacks or drinksJ.
Medications - Your child will receive his/her medication in the Nurse’s Office. Please be sure to make both the nurse, as well as myself, aware of any medical needs your child may have, in writing or email. ANY medications (inhalers/EPI Pens) need to be sent in from home for your child to take on the trip with them.
Dismissal - School will dismiss at 3:15. All students must provide a note or email from a parent before a change in travel arrangements can be made. If your child is going by car with another student in the school, both parents involved need a note. Students are not allowed to go home on another bus other than their own unless they have received permission from the Transportation Department. 2:30 PM is the latest pick up time.
Homework - Your child will have homework Monday through Thursday. All homework should be completed neatly and in pencil. It should take your child 10 minutes to complete their homework (district policy is 10 minutes per grade level).
Book Orders - Books may be ordered online through Scholastic Book Clubs Website. Browse the titles with your child and place your order with your credit card. Your order will come to me, and your credit card payment will go directly to Scholastic's secure server. There's no need to send money to school. After I submit the entire class order to Scholastic, your order will be delivered to our classroom for your child to take home.
Invitations - Please do not send party invitations to school unless the whole class is included. Feelings of those not invited can be easily hurt. For privacy reasons I am not allowed to give out addresses, emails, or phone numbers of students. You can find the names, phone numbers, and addresses in the Gayman School Directory on the Gayman website.
