Island of the Blue DolphinsSummary
A young girl, Karana, is stranded alone on her native island after events in previous chapters: a battle, an evacuation, her brother’s death. Several seasons pass, and she learns to survive on the island alone. She finds shelter, food, and water, and makes weapons to protect herself from the wild dogs. When the ship she long awaits does not return, Karana decides to attempt a journey to the mainland. Partway there, the canoe leaks and she must turn around. She is exhausted and afraid, but a school of dolphins accompanies her and gives her the strength to make it back to the island.
