  • At Home Independent Reading and Weekly Reading Response Journals
The purpose of this weekly assignment is to help students write responses that show clear thinking, showcase comprehension, identify details from the text to support thinking and to work on writing conventions. Students may select the prompt they would like to respond to each week. These prompts are located in the front flap of their Response Journal. The prompt selected must be a different prompt each week. Students are required to follow the format for the Reading Response Journal, which includes a record of their minimum of 100 minutes of reading, a parent signature, and the response question/prompt. Their entry must restate the prompt, answer the prompt by providing at least 3 strong details from the text, and provide a concluding sentence. Please see the Grading Rubric for specific grading criteria. Scores from this assignment will be factored into the Progress Report and Conference Report.
