It is recommended that each student practice a minimum of 5 days each week with each practice session lasting 20 minutes. This will get them to the 100 minute per week range that will ensure success on their instrument.

  • How are the lessons scheduled?

Fifth and sixth grade band lessons for each student will occur once a week during the school instructional day, and last for 30 minutes. Whenever possible these lessons will take place using a rotating schedule. Classes will always occur on the same day of the week, but the time within the day will fluctuate from week to week, thereby making sure that no band student will miss the same academic class time on repeated weeks. This will create fewer academic issues with the students in that they will be less likely to fall behind in an academic class due to being pulled out for their instrumental music lesson.

Each school year there will be a winter program that the intermediate students will participate in. These performances will take place in the month of December. • Are there special rehearsals for the band before or after school?

To prepare for the winter program, the intermediate band students will practice as a group before school 5 or 6 times in the months of November and December. These practices will be a supplement to the weekly 30 minute lessons.

To prepare for the spring concerts, the entire band will meet before school approximately 8 times to rehearse for the end-of-year programs.
