Pine Run is my "new" home away from home. After graduating from Penn State, I was fortunate to be placed at Barclay Elementary for student teaching. After I graduated, I taught third grade for one year and then second grade for many years after that. In 2001, I was given a wonderful opportunity to become a part-time Intervention Teacher so that I could be home the other part of the day with my children. Time flies by when you are having fun! It’s hard to believe I was there for 18 years! Now, I can start my Pine Run memories!
Education is very important to me. As I previously mentioned, I graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Penn State University in 1994. Mr. Martin also attended Penn State, so you can only imagine the PSU PRIDE in the Martin household. In 2009, I earned my master’s degree in Elementary Education from Gratz College. Writing my thesis was a rigorous challenge that left me with a strong urge to learn more about the craft of writing. That’s how I became interested in attending the Pennsylvania Writing Institute where I joined a small group of teachers who worked together to become PAWLP writing fellows. This was one of my best learning experiences. I grew leaps and bounds as a writer and a teacher.
In my spare time, I can be found spending time with my family. My children, Cole and McKenna, keep me busy running from soccer, to swim team practice, and to all of their other activities. For fun, I enjoy being part of a book club, taking walks at Peace Valley Park, and playing with our dog. Sadie keeps us active and smiling every day!
